Gilroy Veterinary Hospital is a well-established, full-service, small animal veterinary hospital providing comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care.
Vaccination
Covid-19 Policy Update!!!!!! - We are opened on Saturdays by appointment only and for vaccinations only. All other precautions are still in effect. Please call when you arrive at the clinic and be aware of which stall you are parked in. Staff will come out and retrieve your pet. We will only allow one pet owner at this time in the building per appointment. If you have any questions, of course please call. In case of an after hours emergency, call the 24 hour service. Thank you for your understanding during this time.
Behavioral Counseling
Since we all have many pets, we can provide advice regarding the correction of problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, house soiling and aggression.
Nutritional Counseling
We will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance.
Comprehensive Examination
A yearly physical exam may catch medical problems before they get worse. The teeth, ears, lymph nodes, and skin are checked for any infection or growths. The sounds of the heart and lungs help us make sure they are in good working order. Tests like blood analysis,X-rays, and urinalysis may be needed to check on internal organs like the liver and kidneys.

Illness Treatment

Parasites Treatment and Control
Heartworm: The type of mosquito that transmits heartworm larvae live above 400-700 feet and like redwood tree stumps. The only place we have diagnosed heartworm is on El Matador Dr. off of Hecker Pass, Summit Rd on Mt Madonna, and in the Hills bordering the Santa Cruz mountains. Since we have never diagnosed heartworm disease in Gilroy, San Martin, Morgan Hill, or Hollister we do not routinely recommend preventative monthly medication unless you live in the local "hot spots" or travel with your pet to heartworm areas.
Pain Management
We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. We also work closely with local specialists when special diagnostic procedures are required. The facility includes a well-stocked pharmacy, in-hospital surgery suite, in-house digital x-ray capabilities, k-laser for non-drug pain relief, and indoor boarding kennels with outdoor walking areas.

Diarrhea Treatment
If your dog or cat is acting normal and is active, or is just a bit off, then these symptoms are mild and may pass in 24 hours. If your pet is acting sick or is puking and pooping alot, make an appointment to take him or her in to our clinic or the emergency clinic ( Unvaccinated puppies may vomit and have bloody diarrhea due to a potentially fatal parvo virus vaccination.)
Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment

Wound and Fracture Care
When attending a dog that has been injured, it is important that the first aid provider takes steps to prevent bite wounds inflicted by the animal being treated. Many dogs, even the family pet, may bite when hurt or frightened. A muzzle is an excellent way to prevent being bitten while rendering first aid. Commercial muzzles are best, as many of them can be used without interfering with breathing; the problem is they are not always available during a crisis.
Poisoning Treatment
"A"irway, "B"reathing, and "C"ardiovascular are covered in the sections on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Shock. The sections on Bleeding and Bandaging will cover information on controlling "B"leeding. First aid for fractures is covered in the section on Splints. First aid treatment for poisoning and choking cases is described in Poisoning and Choking.

Veterinary Surgery
Spaying and Neutering
During these disputes, the pet may receive a bite or a scratch. If the wound becomes infected, an abscess may form within a day or two. Neutering your male cat will reduce his "need" to fight. Without the influence of male hormones he will mark out a much smaller territory and will be less likely to engage in fights over a female.

Laboratory Services
Laboratory: Our in-house laboratory really helps us get fast results to help diagnose problems that need immediate attention. We also send blood, urine, and tissue samples out to a commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultations.
X-Ray
GVH is a privately-owned, two-doctor practice and a great place to not only hone your skills but an excellent opportunity for advancement including future ownership. Microchipping
Microchips are rapidly becoming a very popular method for identifying pets. Once the microchip is inserted, the pet is identified for life. Microchips are safe, unalterable and permanent identification for pets.

General Pet Care

Boarding
We provide pet boarding as a service to our clients. All boarders receive personal attention from our caring staff. Pets may be dropped off and picked up during regular business hours.
Grooming
Ward personnel are responsible for animal handling, bathing and grooming, cleaning, feeding, laundry, waste disposal, and running lab work.
