Overall

My partner went here for a annual exam. Called the office first to see if they accepted her insurance and they said yes. Took her insurance card and did the exam, then informed her that she wasn't covered because she wasn't on Medicaid. THEN they proceeded to tell us only if we paid today they would charge 1/2 price of $140 for their mistake. Incompetent and shameful.

Overall

BEWARE OF RAPID CARE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE INSURANCE.

I had been here a couple years ago, before I had insurance, and I thought the place was alright. Doctor Adams was nice enough and fixed me right up- only charged me the exam fee ($30, or some such amount). I was pleased enough with my last experience, that years later, after finally getting health insurance, I decided to go back when the next issue arose (even though I had several other options that were covered by my provider with no co-pay). I was told by the receptionist at check-in that there was a chance that my provider would not cover all the costs for an after-hours clinic but even if they didn't, I would only be charged the exam fee which was, and I quote, "$34." I hesitated for a second, but I was already there and really not feeling well, so I shrugged it off and stuck around. Good lord, I wish I hadn't. I waited in the lobby for nearly two hours and once my name was called, it was all but five minutes until I was checking out. It was an obvious problem, obvious solution, no tests required kinda thing. During the entire visit, there was no warning of what was coming to slap me in the face in a couple weeks.

This morning I received notice from my provider that Rapid Care had charged well over $200 for that five minutes, I'm assuming because I have insurance and they figured that if I could afford that (on my practically minimum wage), I could afford the maximum amount they could possibly charge. Almost my entire deductible. Well, I can't - so now what?

So I called the place before I got too worked up and explained the situation, repeating what the receptionist had told me during my visit, hoping it was a simple mistake. It wasn't. I was nearly brought to tears over this and the lady I talked to was snarky, attempting to make it seem like it was my fault for believing what I was told during my visit and that there was just nothing that could be done about it. After losing hope, I simply said, "Well I guess I won't be back," to which she replied, "Okay," with a cruel hint of joy and relief in her voice before the call ended.

Misleading and taking advantage of patients and their insurance is not an ethical way to conduct a facility, especially when a person is already in such a vulnerable place as to need to see a doctor in the first place. Certainly would not reccomend.
