Overall

United Transmission did not deliver! Literally! I am across the river in Cape Coral and John, the owner/manager quoted me $1,600 -$1,800 to do my transmission, and to replace a worn tire. This included towing both to his shop and back to my house since the van had not been running for a while and was not legal to drive needing new tags and insurance. At first things seemed in order. The tow went smoothly and John got to work on my van. Later he informed me that someone in the past had done a very shoddy installation of the pump and it had basically flooded and destroyed my transmission. He explained that it was more work than he had anticipated, but since he had quoted me $1,800 it would be the price paid. Fair enough so far. But when we arrived to pay him he then explained that the tow service had charged him $97 and it was far more than he had expected. Bear in mind they have been using this service for 25 years by his own admission. He asked if I would help him by splitting the cost of the return tow? Like a sucker I felt bad for him and grateful for the work he had done so I agreed. He then asked me for $50 as my half. I went ahead and paid it and my van was to be returned the next day. That did not happen. The tow company was busy and he had not made proper scheduled provisions with them. I had to call him too. THEN he told me it would be the next day. But the next day one thing led to another and again the scheduled time for the return never happened. So He called me and let me know that he had to drop something off to another customer and that he would also bring my van by himself. I SPECIFICALLY asked him if he was TOWING it over? He said Yes I m delivering it myself. What he meant was he was driving it and burning up all of my gasoline! A quarter tank to be exact. Not only did he drive it over, (remember that $50 I gave him was for a tow company and not so that he could burn up ALL of my gas) but after dropping it off and making excuses that tried to make me feel like he had been doing me a huge favor and gone out of his way, he then informed me that the shaking I feel when the van is driving is the pitnam arm and center link. That those would need to be replaced. The thing is, before I took the van to him it NEVER shook! I suspect foul play! I don t know if they tampered with the vehicle. I do know that his attitude and ripping me off has cost him a customer. I will tell everyone everywhere repetitively NOT to EVER use their services. When I quote a customer a price in my own line of work, it doesnt matter if I miscalculated my time, the difficulty, material costs etc. I stand by my prices! These people are a rip off! I won t be back unless I am forced to by their warranty on my transmission. But if that happens I ll be taking my van to another mechanic for a check up before they do the warrantied work because if ANYTHING else suddenly goes wrong I will know that it was them intentionally damaging the vehicle which I suspect happened!
