Signature Homes

I would strongly discourage building with Signature. I bought what was also one of their parade homes. While everything looked good on the surface, all the corners that were cut by all of the now out of business subcontractors are costing me thousands. The list of questionable workmanship is quite long. If you want each part of your house built by the lowest bidder that will not be around when their work falls apart, go with signature. If you want a house that you know will last, do your research and find a reputable builder, you will save money in the long run!

Tom Schaefer was helpful, but all he could do was provide me the names of manufacturers of the materials and have me pursue claims against them. Upon being told certain manufacturer warranties were voided because installer did not follow guidelines and by what the rep referred to as just "a bad install for any material" the owners of signature basically told me tough, it's your problem. That is how signature does business..... Do they deserve yours?

We built our home with Signature Homes of Fond du lac managed by Glenn Elmer in 2001. This has been the biggest disappointment of my life and has been a great source of aggravation over the years. I would never recommend Signature Homes to anyone in building their home. Glenn is a poor general manager. I have been in sales my entire adult life working for a company that has been rated the Best of Winnebago County for 3 straight years. This award comes by taking care of your customers no matter the dollar amount spent and bending over backwards at times to take care of their concerns. The only time I can say Glenn was good at bending over backwards in contacting us is when he needed a signature from us to disperse a money draw at the credit union. We knew nothing of Bedrock Builders/Signature Homes at the time we decided on purchasing our lot other than they had to be the designated builder because they owned the lots in the subdivision. I had some reassurance that Signature Homes being backed by Adashun Jones Real Estate, whom we had purchased our previous home, would give us some sort of guarantee of being delivered a quality home. Big mistake! We had a so called 2 year warranty on our home when it was built with myself having to fight for every repair needed from day one. Our home was in the Parade of Homes after which it came time for us to move in. Right? I figured that Glenn would call to set up a time to finish the closing process, possibly do a walk through. Occupancy permit needed? We didn't hear a word from Glenn after the parade. I stayed in our home we were selling with my wife saying forget it, she was staying at the new home with our kids and that Glenn wasn't going to call. She was right and the next day I stayed at the new home. Pretty impressive delivery of your new home! The problems started from day one. Just one quick story to show Glenn's character was in regards to a Energy Star Rebate we were expecting to get from the State of Wisconsin. I called Glenn in regards to the rebate which he said that he hadn't heard anything as of the time I had called him. I finally took the step of calling Madison and the woman I talked to said they had already notified the builder my home did not qualify for the Energy Star Rebate because of a gas log starter we installed in the fireplace. Not that I would have wanted to remove the gas starter, just the integrity of this builder. He wrote a check for his lack of memory on receiving the letter. I could write a book on the fly by night subcontractors Glenn used on our home. The roofing contractor was no longer in business a short time after doing our job so there was no recourse for us to have repairs done and Glenn sure wasn't going to step up to the plate and take care of his customer. He finally wrote another check back to us after I sent a lengthy letter to the owners of Adashun Jones Real Estate detailing some of our struggles. We have a custom stone masonry fireplace in our home. For 2 years we had our smoke alarms going off with almost every fire we tried to enjoy. Glenn's final solution to the problem was to not have any lights on because the recessed lighting could cause a back draw, make sure the clothes dryer or any other fan were not on and finally leave a window cracked open in the middle of the Winter. Thank goodness I finally called the Heatilator manufacturer who sent out a technician that brought along a custom piece of sheet metal and who also installed a new smoke shelf at the top of the fire box. Problem solved by me making one phone call to the right people. I could go on and on, but feel I have made my point. I do want to mention that we were extremely pleased working with Tom Schaffer and my never wanting to do business with Signature Homes, or Adashun Jones has nothing to do with him.

We recently built a home with Signature Homes in Fond du Lac and had a very pleasurable experience. We absolutely love our home, the quality and craftsmanship is astounding!! I spoke with many others who had also built with them and they ALL had the very same experience as we did! Thank you! We love our new home!!
