Recently adopted a cat from this shelter. I absolutely love the cleanliness and care that the animals receive. They have an exceptionally low euthenasia rate of 3.9% and none of those are from overcrowding. The animals are well fed and taken care of. The kitty we got is a PERFECT addition to our family.

We found a dog online that needed a home. It would have been a perfect match for our family. The Shelter doesn't open until 11am so me and my boys got there 30 min early and waited outside the front door. We really wanted this dog (my son has very bad allergies and can only handle a couple of types of dogs and they aren't cheap either. We would rather rescue a dog rather than buy one and we couldn't afford to pay that kind of money anyway). Well I guess someone else wanted the dog too because about 10 min before they opened a lady came up BEHIND us and waited too. She infact, did want the same dog. However we were clearly there 1st. When they opened, we all piled inside and the clerk looked at the woman behind me with a glint of recognition and said "oh, you made it". Hhhmmm, fish? I made a bee line for the counter and siad that i was interested in the one dog. the same clerk said "sorry, because both of you were here at the same time, we have to do a drawing". I explained I was there 1st but she didn't care. So, the other woman "won" the drawing. Go figure. I was upset but did not show it. Not one to make a sceen in public (especially in front of my children) I kept my cool and said congrats anyways. At sporting events, concerts, and anything else it's FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED.
Fairbanks Animal Control/Shelter: What a joke. Make sure you bring a ton of friends with you when you want to rescue an animal because it doesn't matter who gets there 1st, just how many people get their name put in the jar. Oh, and I guess it helps to know or be friends of the people who work there too. What ever that crap was.
