Alaska Bird Observatory is a nonprofit organization that monitors the distribution and demography of birds by using long-term statistically monitoring programs that provide information to help federal, state and local land managers protect and enhance bird populations and their habitats. It works with natural resource agencies, schools and other nonprofit organizations. Alaska Bird Observatory provides lesson-plan driven science and conservation education programs for students and adults. In addition, it offers information about birds and avian conservation issues to the public through the development of interpretive materials. Alaska Bird Observatory has more than 710 members and over 75 volunteers. It is enrolled in the Interior Alaska Green Star program. Green Star is a nonprofit organization that encourages businesses to voluntarily practice waste reduction, energy conservation and pollution prevention in Alaska.
