Sinusitis
Chronic or recurring sinus infections can be caused by blockages or constricted sinus passageways. Many people think of chronic sinusitis as just part of life or something inherited from a parent, but that doesn’t mean you have to live with it.

A tympanic membrane perforation is a hole in the eardrum. Many conditions can cause a tympanic membrane perforation. Middle ear infections (otitis media) can cause pus to accumulate behind the eardrum, which if not treated quickly, can build up middle ear pressure increasing your risk for a tympanic membrane rupture. Traumatic injuries, like scuba diving, a wave slapping against your ear or insertion of a Q-tip can also cause a tympanic membrane rupture.
Sleep Disorders
Occasional snoring can be brought on by unusual fatigue, by a cold, seasonal allergies, or excessive alcohol. Occasional snoring will pass when the reason behind it passes. But, for the 25 percent of people deemed habitual snorers, there may be underlying health problems or sleep disorders that are causing their problem.

Endoscopy
Treatment of eustachian tube problems is thus often directed at the nose. Most patients will benefit from salt water rinses in the nose, using a nasal steroid spray, and practicing “popping” the ears using the pinched nose Valsalva technique described above. If there are problems with nasal allergies, these should be addressed. If there is a concern for sinus infection, antibiotics may be prescribed and a CT scan may be ordered. A nasal endoscopy is also frequently performed in our office in which a small flexible camera is gently passed through the nose to inspect the lining of the nose and the eustachian tube openings. Adults may also have tubes placed in the eardrums if they are having persistent symptoms related to eustachian tube dysfunction.
