Greater Chicago Functional Health

I like to say my immune system ate my pancreas when I was 10--it's one of my default ways of explaining Dr. Powell that I have had Type 1 diabetes for the better part of two decades now. Greater Chicago Functional health has been there for me every step of the way. My few ventures outside of the system (for college, etc) have made me so glad for that, because they do such a great job, not just with medical care, but with dealing with the disease as the complex challenge that it is.

They still have such a great team of people to work with you though, and they are always up on the most cutting edge treatments (and potentially clinical trials, if you're into the whole medical guinea pig thing). Not only do you get an endocrinologist (diabetes doc), but also a nurse practioner/educator to see between your endo visits. I find them great especially at strategizing on the practical aspects of diabetes care. Greater Chicago functional health also has great nutritionists, psychologists who specialize in diabetes-related issues, opthamologists and exercise physiologists

This is the place you will want to go to if you have a diabetes problem. Dr. Powell is the problem solver when it comes to this. His program and guidelines have helped me out tremendously!
