Sagamore Children's Psychiatric Center

It is a shame that this is the only intermediate to long-term psychiatric care center for ALL of Long Island. Unfortunately, my child was sent here and the experience was nothing short of traumatic for my child and my family. The environment is not healthy. The nurses and staff are rude and unfriendly and they treat the children as if they are in a correctional facility instead of a mental hospital. There is no therapy given. My son met with a therapist three times in two months. There is no group therapy. Even the "therapeutic programs" are a joke. The entire program centers upon compliance and meds, meds, meds. The doctors are glorified drug pushers. If you can't think at all, you can't have a problem right??? This place did NOTHING to help my child, and instead gave him new trauma to deal with. They should have shut this place down when they had the chance. I wish someone would really look into what goes on here.
