Medical Weight Loss
While varicose veins are not entirely preventable for a number of reasons, there are certain measures you can take to minimize the progression of varicose veins and improve vein-related symptoms. These measures include weight management, an active aerobic lifestyle that maximizes core usage of the calf muscles of the leg, a vigorous exercise regimen that incorporates regular walking and ambulation, use of graduated compression stockings, and nutritional supplements containing Horse Chestnut extract.
Primary Care
These symptoms may occur gradually, causing some primary care physicians to delay the diagnosis and treatment of vein disease. Likewise, vein symptoms are often mistakenly attributed to aging, arthritis, joint pain, or muscle fatigue.

Labor and Delivery
Giving birth is a celebrated miracle, yet a woman’s body goes through dramatic changes to make way for a new life. Spider and varicose veins worsen during the nine months of pregnancy and persist during the period of breast lactation. If a woman has associated risk factors for the development of spider and varicose veins, chances are that these abnormal veins will not simply disappear after childbirth. In most healthy adult women, however, abnormal veins will become more apparent during pregnancy and will slowly subside once childbirth and lactation are over.

Ultrasound
Dr. Grisoli was recruited by surgeons in Destin to relocate his vein clinic to the Emerald Coast in order to serve patients in the Florida Panhandle. He is on staff at the Sacred Heart Emerald Coast Hospital as well as the Destin Surgery Center. His interest includes treatment of all types of veins from tiny cosmetic spiders to large varicose veins. He will include duplex ultrasound in the diagnosis and treatment of many venous disorders. He has been performing endovenous laser ablation techniques of the Saphenous Venous System with great success since 2004. Dr Grisoli enjoys working with other physicians with interest in venous disease and will refer patients to surgeons or interventional radiologists for consultation when necessary. He is extremely conservative with his approach to venous disorders and will always try to do the least invasive procedure possible that has a reasonable chance for success. Patient safety and satisfaction are his highest priorities.

He has been in private practice at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, Louisiana since 1984. North Oaks Medical Center is a large community hospital representing all specialties including neurosurgery and cardiovascular surgery.

Breast Augmentation
It’s not surprising that many women exhibit visible veins in the breast. Breast veins often become more prominent during pregnancy or puberty as a result of the natural enlargement of the breasts; veins get larger as tissue grows. Pregnancy can also make existing breast veins more prominent. Oral contraceptive use or breast augmentation can also cause veins on the breast to enlarge. Most breast veins fade following pregnancy or when swelling from breast augmentation subsides. Blue breast veins are only a cosmetic problem, and have no health consequences. A skin ulcer is caused by a venous reflux disorder that is called a venous stasis ulcer. Early signs that a venous stasis ulcer may develop include a darkening of the skin in the area of the ankle. Gradually, the skin may become leathery or waxy in appearance. Without treatment of the venous disease, the skin may breakdown and bleeding may occur.
