Veneers
Veneers are porcelain coverings for teeth, usually placed on front teeth to alter the shape, size, position, and color to be more aesthetically pleasing. Yellow teeth can be whitened, crooked teeth can be straightened, both quickly and permanently. Because the veneer is made from a solid piece of porcelain, they are both very strong and stable in color. Also, because the veneer is only a facade, often minimal preparation of the teeth is required.
Crowns
A bridge replaces a missing tooth by connecting a fake tooth to crowns on the teeth adjacent. Therefore, a bridge cannot be used to replace the last tooth in the mouth. The crowns on both the tooth in front of and behind the missing tooth, as well as the replacement tooth, form one solid unit that returns normal chewing ability to the area.

Dr. Brett Brazeal is the eldest son of Drs. George and Angela Brazeal. Like his parents, he matriculated to UCLA, where he earned both his bachelor's degree in Cybernetics and his DDS, graduating in 2006 with honors. Like his father, he was admitted into OKU, the national dental honor society. Dr. Brett also served as a UCLA School of Dentistry faculty member from 2011 to 2012, instructing students in restorative dentistry.

Root Canal Treatment
A crown is indicated when a tooth has fractured, had a root canal, or an extensive cavity or previous restoration. The crown completely covers the tooth to provide strength and restore function. We generally use two types of crowns: porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) and full porcelain crowns. PFMs have the strength of metal combined with the esthetics of porcelain, and are often the best choice for molars. Full porcelain crowns are more esthetic and appear more tooth-like, however they aren’t quite as strong. Therefore, they are used more often on front teeth, where esthetics are a higher priority and the biting forces aren’t as great.

Deep Cleaning
Longstanding inflammation of the gums leads to loss of the bone supporting the teeth, a condition called periodontal (gum) disease. If periodontal disease is present, scaling and root planing (a “deep cleaning”) is indicated to halt the progression of the disease.

Dentures
If multiple teeth are missing, a denture is often the ideal way to replace those missing teeth and restore function to the mouth. When some teeth are still present, a partial denture is indicated. However, when all teeth are missing, a complete denture is needed.

Dental Implants
A bridge does have some drawbacks, however. First, it can be difficult to clean around because floss cannot be used between the teeth in the bridge because they are splinted together. Therefore, the floss must be threaded underneath the bridge near the gums to ensure proper hygiene. Second, a bridge requires that the adjacent teeth are prepared for crowns, even if they are perfectly healthy teeth. If these drawbacks are a significant concern, then an implant is usually a better option to replace the missing tooth.

Orthodontics
Invisalign is a system of orthodontics that uses a series of custom fit trays to straighten teeth. Each clear, rigid, plastic tray aligner is worn for two weeks then switched to the next aligner. In this way, the teeth are slowly moved to achieve a straighter dentition.
Invisalign Orthodontics
Before starting Invisalign, orthodontic photos and impressions must be taken. The goals of the treatment are then transmitted by Dr. Brazeal to the Invisalign lab, which creates a digital representation of the mouth. A prescription is then formulated to move the teeth with the biological limits to ensure predictable tooth movement without negative consequences.

A whiter smile can make you look younger. Teeth whitening is a simple solution to yellow teeth, and multiple modalities exist to achieve whiter teeth. At the most basic, over-the-counter treatments such as Crest White Strips offer an inexpensive way to achieve minor teeth whitening. Dr. Brazeal also provides at-home whitening trays and in-office ZOOM! bleaching that use stronger and more potent whitening agents to achieve more profound and long lasting effects.
