Our office in Columbia is five minutes from Maury Regional Medical Center. For some patients, every aspect of your care can be managed locally.
Radiology
Amy graduated from Columbia State Community College with an Associates of Applied Science degree with a focus on Radiology. She came to Mid-Tennessee Bone & Joint in 1985 as a Registered Radiographer and is now the office Director of Clinical Operations. For Amy, MTBJ is more than just a job. It’s a place where her fellow employees are like family, and so are many of the patients she has met over the years!

Orthopedics
The surgeons of Mid-Tennessee Bone and Joint are expertly trained in the field of Orthopedics. Their extensive knowledge and dedication to their field has built a solid reputation for the best possible care.
Arthroscopy
Elbow arthroscopy has been in existence for decades, but to date little innovation in elbow positioning for arthroscopy has occurred. After experiencing disadvantages with lateral decubitus, prone, and supine suspended positioning techniques, the author has changed to a supine positioning technique that stabilizes the humerus vertically while leaving the forearm free for all elbow arthroscopy procedures.
Pinched Nerve
The unfortunate truth is that most adults will experience low back or neck pain in their lifetime. In the majority of cases, the pain is self-limiting and resolves with conservative treatment. In some cases, surgery is the best for gaining pain relief or increased mobility. Some conditions that produce a pinched nerve or a narrowing of the spinal canal may require surgery. Our surgeons routinely employ a variety of procedures, including decompression, fusion, and disc replacement.
Minimally Invasive Surgery
Dr. Zachary Pharr specializes in Sports Medicine with emphasis on hips, shoulders, elbows and knees. He provides conservative treatment of the hip, fracture treatment, as well as bringing minimally invasive surgery of the hip to the practice. He has treated athletes at all levels from youth to professional sports.
Ankle Surgery
Joint Replacement
Joint replacement surgery is a procedure where a diseased joint is removed and surgically replaced with a prosthesis. The prosthesis can be plastic, metal, or ceramic, and works in the same way as a natural joint. The joints that are replaced most often are the hip and knee, typically due to the extra weight and stress on those joints.

Orthopedic Surgery
Dr. Wade did both of my knee replacements and I could not have asked for a better doctor. He is so understanding and takes the time to listen and makes sure you understand what is going to happen before you go into surgery. Dr. Wade has been my doctor for 22 years and if you need any kind of orthopedic surgery, please go see him! I have sent many of my friends to him and they have all been happy.
Robotic Surgery
Dr. Scott McCall performs partial and total knee replacements. He is also MAKO certified and can perform knee replacements utilizing MAKO robotic surgery through Maury Regional Medical Center.
Arthroscopy
Dr. Carso n Strickland specializes in procedures of the foot and ankle. While Dr. Strickland takes care of all foot and ankle disorders, he is especially interested and trained in total ankle replacement, hindfoot deformity correction, charcot foot and ankle reconstruction, minimally invasive bunion and forefoot procedures, ankle arthroscopy and stabilization. He also practices general orthopaedics and fracture care.
Hip Replacement
I had a direct anterior total hip replacement from Dr. Wade in March 2016. I was able to go to church the following Sunday with just a walker, and I only needed one visit with a physical therapist because of how well I was progressing. Dr. Wade is a wonderful, sweet doctor, and I am so happy with what he did for me! I was in so much pain before and now I can keep up with the grandkids. I would recommend Dr. Wade and this surgery to anyone!
Knee Replacement
There are a variety of joint problems that can ultimately lead to knee surgery. A key reason is arthritis which can present with pain, stiffness and inflammation in the joints. For those over 60, osteoarthritis is typically the most common form. The progressive wear and tear on joints and cartilage leads to limited range of motion, significant pain deep within the joint, or occasionally the feeling of your bones catching or grating against each other. A knee replacement typically relieves the pain and discomfort associated with this degenerative condition. Knee replacements can also be used to treat knee pain related to a previous trauma or injury to the knee.

Dr. Sykes performs several different procedures that are geared toward patients who suffer chronic pain and have not been able to find relief via over the counter medication, prescription medication, physical therapy, or lifestyle changes.
Occupational Therapy
Denice is an Occupational Therapist for MTBJ Physical Therapy. She graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. Denice has worked in many medical settings including outpatient, inpatient, and skilled nursing. Her areas of experience include orthopedics with emphasis on hand and upper extremities, neurological, work conditioning, and ergonomic assessments. She has worked with patients of all ages.
Frozen Shoulder
Frozen Shoulder is a loss of motion or stiffness in the shoulder, usually accompanied by pain in the joint. Frozen shoulder is most common in people between the ages of 40 and 60, but can afflict anyone regardless of gender, arm preference or occupation.
Tennis Elbow
Lateral Epicondylitis, commonly called tennis elbow, is an inflammation of the tendons that connect the muscles of the forearm to the elbow. The pain is primarily felt at the lateral epicondyle, the bony bump on the outer side of the elbow.

Aquatic Therapy
One of the best benefits of including MTBJ Physical Therapy in your rehabilitation plan is the use of our HydroWorx® Therapy Pool. HydroWorx is an industry leader in the area of aquatic therapy equipment. MTBJ is one of very few facilities in the Middle Tennessee area to have this equipment on site. The pool is equipped with an underwater treadmill to enable patients with limited mobility the opportunity to rebuild their strength. While land weights can cause added stress and pain on an injured part of the body, aquatic therapy uses the water’s natural resistance to reduce forces on weight-bearing joints. The result is improved motion and flexibility when used in conjunction with a land based therapy plan.

Internal Brace. For patients who repeatedly roll their ankle or have suffered several sprains, persistent ankle pain, or prolonged ankle instability, this treatment can provide patients with a stronger, more stable ankle and a faster return to daily life.
