Jim Daugherty Construction Inc.

Jim Daugherty of Daugherty Custom Homes (Kannapolis, China Grove, Pine Creek) as defrauded all of the home owners from their money by not paying out to his subcontractors. He used the money from the home owners pre-construction loan that was meant to pay for that home owners home and the subcontractors that worked on that house, but instead took the money to pay for his own personal assets. As a result of this, there have been numerous mechanical liens on the home owners who had no idea that Jim Daugherty had not paid these subcontractors, but lied to the home owners and signed documents that he did pay them. In addition to this, to keep the unpaid subcontractors off of his back, he lies to them to say that the home owners will pay you. Also, he has been witness to steal water and electricity from another home owners house to finish building his house, because he has not paid the utilitity company for the previous houses he has built. There have been many subcontractors claiming that he has written bad checks surmounting well over $30,000. These subcontractors have said that it is a federal offense to write bad checks and they can put him in jail for writing bad checks.

It is surprising that this builder cannot pay bills as he has at least 10 to 15 rental properties, beach house and several homes.

It is a shame his wife is a realtor/owner of Exit Reality and I see their advertisement on the billboard that they are growing. Both of them must have money somewhere to help pay for these subcontractors and cancel the mechanical liens placed on the home owners. Please be aware of this builder as nobody warned me about him.
