Overall

Mr. Becker was personable, honest, and involved with every aspect my renovations. There was never a time that I was not aware of the cost associated with the changes I requested along the way. His employees handled themselves in a professional manner. His office manager has patience of a saint.... Which was lucky for me. BECKER ENTERPRISE WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY!

Overall
Mr. Becker told me his "A team...

Mr. Becker told me his "A team was on this job". During the installation of the crusher run bedding the pitch for the water run off was insufficient. Standing water after it rains in numerous areas. They attempted to correct with no success. They had NEVER installed a random pattern before. I had to repeatedly ask to break up several straight lines more than 2' in length. I could plainly see that it was not a true random pattern as displayed in several paver manufacturer brochures but more so a haphazard pattern (i.e. "figure it out as you go" as the workers would say to each other). Many of the same block sizes were place against each other.

No show--no call on a scheduled day to work.

The 3 drain tiles laid to the fence line was improperly placed resulting in flooding that portion of the yard during the first rain. Becker's workers returned, separated them out and extended them a distance sufficient to avoid yard flooding.

Mr. Becker stated that I owed an additional $1,351 for the additional blocks, flower garden stones and movement of the drain lines. I was shocked that this additional cost was never mentioned either before, during or the last time both he and I reviewed the final patio together. He never even warned me of a possible price increase. When I protested the movement of the drain tile as part of the additional cost whereas it was his design for original placement which caused the flooding, he then quickly deferred his rationale to the increase in cost of larger flower garden stone edging. He then added a new comment to his argument that more block cutting was involved. Per the written contract page one; 'Any alterations or deviation from specifications involving extra cost or labor and material will ONLY be executed with an agreed upon written proposal for same, and will be an extra charge over the sum upon in this contract. All agreements must be in writing.' No previous conversations nor any written proposals was provided concerning any increase to contract cost either before or during project work nor were there any verbal change orders discussed specific to any increases in cost. I was disgusted by Mr. Becker's attitude and rude demeanor. I paid the total additional cost under protest.

It gets worse... An irrigation sprinkler line was punctured doing the original work. Repair was executed however it was discovered weeks later that it was not repaired properly. I did not notice this failure at repair until late June as we had heavy rains during the spring not requiring sprinkler system usage. I requested they return to that same puncture location and effect repair. One week, no call, no show. Another week and half went by, no call, no show. I hired an independent irrigation contractor on 4 July to fix the punctured line for $45.

On 14 July, Mr. Becker contacted me. I informed him that I could not wait any longer, had it repaired and that I was sending him the bill for reimbursement of $45. He stated that he would not reimburse me for this expense as I should have waited for him to contact me and do the repair. I reminded him that I had initially contacted his office over three weeks ago and could not wait any longer. He stated that he visited my home twice, yet he acknowledged that he spoke to no one nor left a written note. He also admitted that he never called my cell phone nor left a voice mail as he had done several times while the patio was being built. He again refused this reimbursement in an irritated manner then hung up the phone.

In the summary, Becker received his full fee ($9,251) including the $1,351 increase charged without warning. Yet after all that, he failed to return for a simple repair ("I stand by my work" as he told me several times past). Also, he posted pictures of my home for his business advertising without my permission. Treated me with an unprofessional demeanor and distain for customer satisfaction.
