Overall

I took my dog in for a teeth cleaning and after the teeth cleaning my dog got an infection and almost died. Then my other dog had surgery and they weren't upfront with the surgery costs and it ended up costing me a lot more than what was originally quoted.. Then my dog was sick with some kind of disease, and they got me in for another visit and tried to charge me extra money for ongoing repeated services and medicines that would end up costing me a whole lot of money. Not happy!

My mother has been going to Dr...

My mother has been going to Dr. B since before I was born (~1986), and I've been going myself for near a decade now with my own pets. We've also referred friends and family there without hesitation. I've been way too many times to detail them, but I could recount dozens of exceptional experiences that show what a great vet, and a great person overall, Dr. B is.

Let me put it this way: I drive to Chandler ALL THE WAY from Northwest Phoenix for EVERY vet visit, and my mom and a few friends drive from North Scottsdale and PV, too.

Do you think we would all go so far for dozens of pet and stray animals if Dr. B was not the best on the face of the earth? No. I volunteer in resue and know some amazing vets who are in it for all the right reasons, and I still would not take my cats anywhere else.

Dr. B has been so kind and compassionate, uderstanding of harder times. He's helped us out so many times... and I've never seen a pet he was uncomfortable handling (I've taken him some pretty ferocious ferals, too). He has a rare way with animals that I've never seen elsewhere.

There has been some turnover in his office staff (and, of course, I miss the old ones I knew most of my life). Otherwise, I could not think up a single complaint about any visit I've ever had at Chandler Small Animal Clinic.

Dr. B is a wonderful person and fabulous vet. I feel truly lucky to have him to care for my animals. They deserve the best, and Dr. B is the best!

I took both my boys in for grooming and they got a fantastic do right off the bat. They love the groomer and they pull me into the office when we get there.

Overall
I visited Chandler Small Anima...

I visited Chandler Small Animal Clinic recently because I received a free exam coupon in the mail just after moving to Chandler. By the time I left the clinic, I would have paid any price to get my dog & myself out of there unharmed. The receptionist (Andrea) who booked my appointment & checked us in was very professional and knowledgeable. She was able to answer my questions and made me feel comfortable bringing my dog there. Once she put us in the exam room...it went downhill fast.

The technician (Britany) came in after a few minutes and seemed very new to her job, I could hardly understand a word she said, she didn't have the necessary tools with her and kept having to go out and come back. This made my dog even more nervous than he already was. Not to mention after all that, she called both me & my dog the wrong name, TWICE! I'm terrified to think what would happen if she was in charge of anything important like surgery or lab results.

Dr. Benesh seemed competent enough but he didn’t seem comfortable examining my dog and spoke in riddles for what seemed like forever, yet he never really said anything. I also didn't appreciate his refusal to answer my questions and he dodged the subject multiple times. We agreed on doing some diagnostic blood work costing in excess of $200 dollars. I didn't mind the cost, I minded not getting the results for over 4 days (when I was told they would be in the next morning).

After my appointment, I walked into the waiting area to pay my bill. Even though I was the only client there, I was ignored by the receptionist (Jessica), until I finally asked if I could pay 10 minutes later. She wad very rude and unable to answer my questions about their boarding services and having my dogs teeth cleaned. To top it all off, she forgot to apply my free exam coupon when I heard Andrea specifically point out to her when I arrived to do that.

Finally, another woman had to come up and fix the exam charge error. I paid my bill and left. Not one apology from her about my waiting to checkout or for the billing error to be fixed. Two days go by and no word on my dog's lab results, so I call to inquire. The first two attempts I was put on hold and no one ever came back on the line, the third call, Jessica took my name & number and said she would call me right back. I waited from 9am to 1pm and she never did call me back. So I called again..got Jessica once again, this time she took a message for Dr. Benesh and said he would contact me with the results.

The next day Dr. Benesh still hadn't returned my call. I called once again, this time I reached Andrea, she apologized for my inconvenience and wouldn't you know it, Dr. Benesh called me back an hour later. Everything was normal with the blood work and I was relieved.

My dog and I are very active with an agility team and a Frisbee team, I have a large group of pet lovers in my life on a daily basis. Interestingly, when I started inquiring about Chandler Small Animal Clinic at our last team meeting and I was shocked to hear several members over the past few years had similar experiences to mine and most were far worse. After hearing their horror stories of being charged for services never preformed or going in for yearly shots and their dog never received them, yet they were charged and the only reason they found out was because they had switched vets and there was nothing in the medical history about shots given.

I realize now that my dog and I dodged a bullet with this clinic. I don't feel the lack of quality care is totally Dr. Benesh's fault, it seems to be the incompetent staff zeros out the good staff and the Dr. I was lucky this time, from now on I will seek the opinion of those pet owners I trust to help guide me to the right animal hospital, because a good doctor means nothing without a great staff.
