The Medical Imaging Department provides diagnostic, ultrasound, CAT scan, bone densitometry, PET/CT, nuclear medicine, special procedures, MRI and mammography services.

Short Procedure Admissions (SPA) is located within the Same Day Surgery Department and provides a variety of services to meet your outpatient needs. We work directly with departments such as Radiology and Cardiopulmonary in a coordination of care effort for a number of procedures.

MRI services have been expanded through the construction and installation of the area’s first short bore MRI, CAT Scan – Personnel staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, MRI and Mammography Services are all accredited by the American College of Radiology.

UPMC Somerset is proud to offer the Genius 3D Mammography exam. This procedure has revolutionized how breast cancer is detected by providing a better option for women of all breast densities. This technology increases the detection of invasive breast cancers, reduces callbacks and takes about the same time as a conventional 2D mammogram.

The Advanced Wound Care Center at UPMC Somerset, managed by Healogics, provides specialized treatment for chronic or non-healing wounds, which are defined as sores or wounds that have not significantly improved from conventional treatments. Associated with inadequate circulation, poorly functioning veins, and immobility, non-healing wounds lead to lower quality of life and may lead to amputations. When wounds persist, a specialized approach is required for healing. Typically, a wound that does not respond to normal medical care within 30 days is considered a problem or chronic wound.

The world-renowned UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program is now at UPMC Somerset. Should you sustain a concussion, our neuropsychologist will perform an expert evaluation, including determining what type(s) of concussion you may have, and customize an active treatment plan tailored to your needs.
Physical Therapy
We feature a highly educated fitness staff consisting of professionals with Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate degrees in Exercise Physiology, Physical Therapy and Athletic Training. Several Staff members are certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
Occupational Therapy
UPMC Somerset’s Outpatient Occupational Therapy department is trained to specifically deal with pain in the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand. This pain may be as a result from injury or surgery. Our staff is highly trained and educated to provide you with the most appropriate care tailored to meet your specific needs. Your treatment plan may include custom splinting, exercises, and treatment techniques to increase strength and range of motion as well as decrease pain. Our staff is also educated in conservative treatment techniques which may help with the problems of pain, numbness, and swelling before the drastic measures of surgery. Our goal is to assist you in getting back to your normal activities of daily living, work, and leisure tasks. In addition to treating problems with the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand; our staff is also qualified to treat traumatic brain injury, stroke, work related injuries, and children with learning deficits.
