Hemstitched Heirlooms

My boyfriend, his mother, and I just returned from buying nearly $100 worth of yarn at Hemstitch’s Super Bowl sale and we will not be returning in the future. While the store had many wonderful yarns from which to choose, we were affronted by their new winding policy. When we asked if we could have our skeins wound, the clerk told us it would be $1 per skein (!), which would have cost us $20 more on top of the $100 we had already spent. Then she proceeded to try and sell us a winding machine to take home that would have cost around $100. If I wanted this kind of treatment, I would have shopped at Joann’s or some other coorporate retailer. The reason we shop at small businesses like Hemstitch is for the customer care and service. We will not make the mistake of going there in the future. Instead, we will spend our hard earned dollars at Blazing Needles in Salt Lake City where they will happily wind yarn purchases for free.
