Anahita holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan, where she was the recipient of the Graduate Architecture Thesis Award for Theory/History/Framing, and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture with a Minor in Urban Landscape Studies from Northeastern University. Framing

Carpeting
By opening up an existing wall between corridor and room and replacing solid wall with steel framed glazing, the entrance to the room now allows for borrowed light to pass into the formerly opaque corridor, helping to connect interior space to Killian Court and the Charles River just beyond. Within the room, new LED lighting is concealed in shelves and slots built off the existing beams, highlighting existing structural and spatial characteristics of the room, while concealing light sources. Existing wall-to-wall carpeting was removed to reveal original terrazzo and concrete beneath, which has been sanded and buffed to allow for the floors to be a continuation of the language of the corridor and historic architecture. In addition to these moves, the room features a new acoustic plaster ceiling, which offers acoustic damping with a minimal reduction in ceiling height. A long millwork enclosure on the south side of the space conceals new ductwork and mechanical systems.

New Construction
Rachelle joined Utile in 2021 as an Architect & Project Manager, bringing with her a decade of experience in a variety of project types and scales. Rachelle thrives on complex projects that navigate regulatory processes, client needs, and budget while upholding design excellence. Her experience includes new construction, adaptive reuse, planning, programming, and feasibility studies. She currently is managing a range of affordable, highly sustainable, multifamily housing projects, as well as the repositioning of a Boston-area strip mall to a mixed-use urban neighborhood.

Landscaping
The plan incorporated many opportunities for feedback from the community including: three public workshops, three Steering Committee meetings, Mayor’s Ward meetings, small group meetings, two digital surveys, digital mapping platform, a video and photo campaign, social media outreach, and newsletters. Community members also had an opportunity to explore ways to make commercial corridors more attractive and coherent through encouraging a wider range of commercial uses and active ground floor uses, integrating and improving pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, incorporating landscaping and green infrastructure elements, and enhancing public realm through facade and signage guidelines.

Garage Door Repair/Replacement
The Barn was conceived as part of a strategic campus vision plan that Utile developed for The Belmont Day School. The building contains a flexible, 14,000 square foot indoor athletics fieldhouse with two, dual-use basketball and volleyball courts as well as a 13,000 square foot two-story headhouse composed of offices, locker rooms, and five workshop-style classroom spaces for the School’s evolving STEAM programs. Large, glass garage doors in the fieldhouse create a direct connection to the surrounding landscape. These doors, along with operable clerestory windows offer passive cooling to the fieldhouse while rooftop PV panels provide a portion of the building’s power.

Painting
Insulation
Additional building upgrades include new windows, new insulation, a new roof, and modernized HVAC and lighting to significantly reduce the building’s energy consumption and carbon footprint. The library is now fully accessible with a new elevator and enhanced technology for the hearing impaired.
Masonry
The existing building comprised two connected but spatially separate parts: an 1890s masonry, timber, and iron structure, built as a brewery, and a 1990s steel and concrete addition. Post-renovation, these parts house seven teaching studios with integral makerlabs, a large makerspace with state-of-the-art equipment, staff and community workspaces, and flexible assembly space for programming, community meetings, and larger functions.
