Stroke Rehabilitation
Valley Health’s Winchester Medical Center (WMC) has been certified by the Joint Commission as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center. As such, patients treated in the center have the best chance of stroke survival and will experience state-of-the-art recovery services. In addition, our center is the only Joint Commission-certified Advanced Primary Stroke Center in the northern Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia.

Dr. Sabbagh earned his medical degree from the University of Damascus, School of Medicine in Syria and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, University of Illinois in Chicago. He earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and is a Certified Physician Executive (CPE). He is a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

A board-certified urologist, prior to assuming his current role as vice president of Medical Affairs, Dr. Restrepo had been in private practice with Urology Clinic of Winchester and a member of the Winchester Medical Center attending medical staff since 1995. He has served as chairman of Winchester Medical Center’s Division of Urology, chair of the Department of Surgery, and a member of the Medical Staff Executive Committee.

As the only comprehensive Neuroscience Center in the region, our program brings together an expert team of more than 30 specialists in neurology, neurosurgery and interventional spine care who utilize advanced technology and a coordinated model of care to effectively diagnose and treat complex conditions of the brain, spine, and nervous system. Our multidisciplinary approach ensures that patients receive expert, coordinated care — from diagnosis to treatment and rehabilitation.
Epilepsy
The National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC) has designated The Virginia Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at Winchester Medical Center as a Level 4 Epilepsy Center. This is the highest level available to be awarded to treatment centers. Our treatments include anti-seizure medications, vagal nerve stimulation, responsive neuro-stimulation, epilepsy surgery, and modified diet programs for all ages.

Julie Miksit, RN, BSN, MBA, is vice president of Operations and Service Lines at Winchester Medical Center (WMC). Miksit’s primary responsibilities include ensuring WMC’s service lines deliver a high level of patient care and working collaboratively with Valley Health entity leadership in Business Development and Strategic Services. Miksit also directs operations for Heart & Vascular, Oncology, Neurosciences, Orthopedics and Rehabilitation Services.
Arthroscopy
At Valley Health, our patients receive a focused approach to the diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic injuries and disorders that combines advanced medical technology with a collaborative team of orthopedic surgeons, rheumatologists, advanced practice clinicians, nurses, physical and occupational therapists and other medical professionals. We offer a comprehensive referral program for total joint replacement, arthroscopy, sports-related injuries and other orthopedic procedures. Each patient benefits from our knowledgeable and careful approach to diagnosing and treating disorders and injuries.
Wound Care
Shenandoah Memorial Hospital is a 25-bed facility in Woodstock, VA. SMH offerings include 24-7 emergency services, outpatient surgery, cardiopulmonary services, orthopedic surgery, medical imaging, diabetes management, inpatient and outpatient rehab, behavioral health services, sleep lab, cardiac and pulmonary rehab, wound care clinic, anti-coagulation clinic, wellness programs and health screenings. The hospital is supported by a team of physicians, some employed by SMH and others in their own independent practices.
Minimally Invasive Surgery
Minimally invasive surgery means less pain, minimal scarring and quicker recovery times for our patients. By using advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques, we are able significantly reduce the amount of time our patients spend in the hospital following surgery and accelerate their return to an active lifestyle.
