As an undergraduate, he received many academic honors as well as being named the school’s scholar-athlete. He earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Memphis, where he was president of the Medical Honor Council for two years and recipient of the school’s Community Service Award. Dr. Allen’s internship and residency were completed at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. His training included two years of specialized training in general surgery and three years in urology. He was named chief resident with training in renal transplantation and pediatrics. Dr. Allen founded The Urology Clinic in 1984 and the ambulatory surgery center, Georgia Lithotripsy and Laser Center, in 1990.

After a physical examination by one of our providers, a complete report will be sent to your physician. Pelvic ultrasound is a diagnostic exam that allows your physician to view the organs and structures within your pelvis.

As with other forms of cancer, bladder cancer is a product of a mutation within the cells that make up the bladder’s tissue. This mutation typically results in the formation of a cancerous tumor, which can be difficult to detect early on since there is no way to view the internal structure of the bladder without imaging tests such as an MRI.

First, Dr. Allen will conduct a physical exam and discuss the patient’s medical history and current symptoms with them directly. If Dr. Allen feels that further testing is warranted, they will most likely refer the patient to a radiologist to complete a CT scan, PET scan, MRI, or ultrasound. Other exams can also include a biopsy and blood test among a few others. Make sure you discuss your diagnostic options and preferences with Dr. Allen.

Vasectomy
A vasectomy is a form of birth control during which the vas deferens, the tubes that carry sperm, are cut. When the tube is cut, there is no way for sperm to be released from the penis. This procedure is considered a permanent form of birth control, but it is possible to have a reversal surgery should the patient change their mind in the future.
Robotic Surgery
For a majority of patients who are diagnosed with kidney cancer, robotic surgery will be the procedure of choice. Specifically, the da Vinci Nephrectomy procedure is very effective in removing cancerous tissue while inflicting minimal side effects on the patient themselves. Each case is very unique, so patients will need to consult with Dr. Allen about all available treatment options and which method will be best for them specifically.
