Chiropractic Adjustments
Under normal circumstances, chiropractic adjustments are painless. In cases of recent trauma, such as whiplash, mild discomfort may be experienced due to inflammation. It is also common to feel a brief sensation in the extremities immediately following an adjustment due to the sudden decompression of the affected nerve root.
Spinal Adjustments
An "adjustment," as doctors of chiropractic use the term, means the specific manipulation of vertebrae which have abnormal movement patterns or fail to function normally. Doctors of chiropractic spend years learning motion palpation (the art of examining by movement or touch) and other forms of spinal examining procedures, so that specific and appropriate spinal adjustments can be administered.
Subluxation
Once Dr. May has identified the problem, treatment will begin by way of these adjustments or "manipulations." Particular attention will be paid to that area of your spine where a spinal derangement, or "subluxation", has been detected. The adjustment is usually given by hand or "activator" type instruments, and consists of applying pressure to the areas of the spine that are out of alignment or that do not move properly within their normal range of motion.

Absolutely. According to Gray's Anatomy, the nervous system “coordinates and controls every function within the human body”. There are two major parts of the nervous system; the Somatic (the portion under our conscious control) and the Autonomic (the portion that controls functions we are unconscious of). The autonomic system controls things like heart rate, blood pressure, hormone production and release from the glands, etc. It allows you to breathe, to swallow, blink your eyes and many other things all without thinking about it. BRT has a way of communicating with the autonomic system. We use Muscle Response Testing (MRT ), similar to the manual muscle testing utilized in Applied Kinesiology. Since the body is an energetic system it stands to reason that a functional organ/gland/nervous system connection would be strong when challenged. By using MRT we can detect the specific communication blockages related to a client's symptoms. The affected pathway, when muscle-tested, shows up as a significant weakness. After a BRT correction is performed, the practitioner can go back and re-test the pathway using MRT. When the energy blockage has been cleared, the muscle test will become strong.
Acupressure
With BRT, Dr. May can assess where these blockages may be present through the use of Muscle Response Testing (MRT). MRT is one of the cornerstones of Applied Kinesiology. During BRT treatments, certain Body Reflex Points are stimulated on the skin with light touch. These reflex points are very similar to acupressure points. Through a series of gentle tapping maneuvers down the spine along with some specific breathing patterns, Dr. May is able to stimulate the body to naturally remove these energy blockages. Treatments are fast, safe and non-invasive. There is no specialized equipment necessary. All treatments are done by hand and may be performed seated or standing. Imagine...a therapy with no drugs, surgery or needles that actually works! That's the beauty of BRT.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is based on Chinese Medicine principles, which involves special Acupuncture points correlating to various conditions throughout the body. Dry needling involves treatment of a specific muscle, with the intention to reduce tightness and pain. Many of the Acupuncture and known Trigger point locations do correlate, so sometimes treatment may seem similar, whereas other times it may seem quite different.
