Here's the deal. This contractor convinced us to go with cost plus contract and promised to save us money because he'd split the savings with us 50/50 on anything he gets a better price on. After we signed, he not only made no effort to save money, he did not keep an eye on his subs and let them run amok and charge whatever they wanted. And in our case, he made purchases for his other 'fixed price contracts' and put our PO on them so we ended up paying for things in other houses. This was money directly into HIS pocket. He never told us a thing about overages until the end, and then hit us with over 50K extra. When we couldn't pay, he put a lien on our house. He has put us in the position of now having to sell this house, because we cannot afford the new price. So, Welcome to Aiken, but get another contractor.
