Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder characterized by widespread body pain and tenderness of the joints, muscles, tendons and other soft tissues. Fibromyalgia may also be associated with fatigue, headaches, difficulty sleeping, depression, and anxiety. Our practice does not believe that this is a psychiatric illness rather treatable disease.
Medical Weight Loss
Causes and symptoms: Polymyalgia Rheumatica mainly causes muscle pain and stiffness of the neck, shoulder and hips after long periods of rest or inactivity. Other general symptoms include weight loss, fever, tiredness and anemia. The exact cause of polymyalgia rheumatica is not known. It is mostly linked to giant cell arteritis which is a more serious disease and involves inflammation of the blood vessels in the head. Primary Care
While our expert Doctors do not recommend stopping your medication or changing doses, it’s important to stay in contact with your Rheumatologists about any new symptoms or exposure to the virus. The CDC issued new guidelines on March 5, 2020 for people at higher risk of COVID-19 that encourage them to stay home as much as possible. If you do display any signs or symptoms of the virus please contact your primary care doctor or urgent care/emergency room for further guidance. Hand washing (for at least 20 seconds with soap and water) is important when it comes to preventing the spread of germs. The CDC also advises measures like avoiding touching your mouth, nose, and eyes, avoiding people who are coughing and sneezing, cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces, and avoiding large crowds.

The predominant symptom of fibromyalgia is generalized body pain. The intensity of pain may vary from mild to severe. Tender points, localized painful areas in the neck, shoulders, back, hips, arms or legs, are present. The pain may either be continuous or there may be a diurnal variation in pain, with an aggravation of the pain during the night. The pain may either be aching in nature or a shooting, burning pain that may increase with stress, anxiety, physical activity and cold or damp weather. Most people with fibromyalgia also experience fatigue, depression, and sleep disorders where they wake up with a feeling of tiredness despite long periods of sleep.

Gout is a very common, painful form of arthritis which causes swelling, redness and stiffness of the joints. Gout is caused by increased levels of uric acid in the tissues and blood from abnormal metabolism. Eating certain foods rich in purines such as liver and dried beans can elevate the body’s level of uric acid. These Increased levels of uric acid can also cause kidney stones. Gout usually affects the big toe and can later attack ankles, heels, knees, wrists, fingers, and elbows. If untreated, gout can result in permanent joint and kidney damage.

Middle-aged women are at an increased risk of developing fibromyalgia. To diagnose scleroderma the doctor will ask your medical history and will do a physical examination to look for some specific signs of the disease.
