Impacted eyeteeth become more of a challenge as a patient gets older. Older patients will be more likely to experience an impacted tooth that doesn’t erupt on its own, even if there is plenty of space available for it. According to the American Association of Orthodontists, it is recommended that a panoramic x-ray, known as a panorex screening, be taken after a thorough oral exam when patients are around seven years old. This will be done to count the teeth and to determine if there might be any problems with the adult teeth erupting as planned. It is also important to determine that all the adult teeth are present and that there are no issues with crowding or unusual growths that may prevent proper development.

Crowns
After impressions are taken a crown is made and shaded to match your existing teeth. The crown is then slipped over the post and cemented. This final prosthetic crown appears as a natural tooth.

Dr. Hudson is a board-certified specialist who has obtained extensive training in these procedures and is able to perform them in a highly proficient and professional manner. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
It is our desire that your recovery be as smooth and pleasant as possible after oral surgery. Pre-prosthetic Surgery
The preparation of your mouth before the placement of a denture (or prosthesis) is referred to as pre-prosthetic surgery. Some patients require minor oral surgical procedures before receiving a partial or complete denture, in order to ensure the maximum level of comfort. A denture sits on the bone ridge, so it is very important that the bone is the proper shape and size. One or more of the following procedures might need to be performed in order to prepare your mouth for a denture...
Gum Surgery
After the tooth has been moved into its final position, the gum surrounding it should be evaluated to ensure that it is healthy and strong enough to last for a lifetime, especially considering all the teeth brushing and chewing activities it will be exposed to over the years. In certain situations, especially when a tooth has needed to move a considerable distance, minor gum surgery may be required in order to bulk up the tissue over a relocated tooth. This will help the gum to remain healthy, and your orthodontist will explain the process to you if it applies to your unique situation.
Maxillofacial Surgery
Dr. Lloyd Hudson was born in Fort Worth, Texas and was raised in Richardson, a suburb of Dallas. He received his Bachelors of Science (B.S.) degree in 1987 from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He then received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) Degree at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, where he graduated in the top of his class in 1991. After dental school, Dr. Hudson chose to further his education in the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He completed a 6-year intensive residency training program at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky. This training program consisted of an internship in General Surgery and a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Hudson also received his Medical Degree (M.D.) during this time, where he again graduated in the top of his class in 1994 from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Dr. Hudson began his private practice in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1998 after 10 years of post-graduate training.
Tooth Extractions
Recovery after a tooth extraction should only last for a couple of days, but there are certain steps that you can take to speed up the healing process.
Bone Grafting
Major bone grafting is usually performed in order to repair jaw defects. These may have resulted from congenital defects, tumor surgery, or some type of traumatic injury. The largest defects are typically corrected using the patient’s own bone, and the procedures are generally performed in an operating room and may require an overnight hospital stay.

Braces
Exams of these adult teeth in children will usually be done by your dentist, and if problems are detected, you can be referred to an orthodontist. Treatment of problems involving teeth that are failing to erupt can involve placing braces on open spaces to encourage proper eruption. A referral may also be made to an oral surgeon for extraction of baby teeth that need to be removed or select adult teeth that could be preventing the impacted eyeteeth from erupting. Any growths or extra teeth that could be blocking the eruption of healthy adult teeth will also need to be removed.
