There is little data concerning the correct age to spay and neuter pets, but emerging research informs AAHA’s guidelines. For example, cancer, orthopedic disease, behavioral problems, endocrine disorders, obesity, and urinary incontinence may be linked to sterilization status and the age at which the procedure is performed. The University of California, Davis, conducted a study on golden retrievers in 2013 that turned the world of veterinary medicine on its head concerning early spaying and neutering. Early sterilization prevented many issues, according to the study, but also appeared to increase the risk of other diseases, such as cranial cruciate ligament rupture, hemangiosarcoma, mast cell tumors, lymphosarcoma, and hip dysplasia. More research is needed, especially with different canine breeds, to help us understand the cause and effect of sterilization and the relationship between spay/neuter status and disease prevalence. More studies on the link between sterilization age and the onset of certain diseases also are needed.

Luxating patella correction is an orthopedic procedure that repairs the dog's dislocated kneecap. A correction may be needed when the dog's kneecap (patella) has slipped out of its natural groove. People don’t usually have to be anesthetized because we understand what is going on during a dental procedure – we understand when someone asks us to keep still in order to avoid being hurt. However, even some people react so strongly to dental procedures that they need to be sedated. In people, a trip to the dentist most often means cleaning clean teeth; with dogs and cats, painful periodontal disease is commonly present and needs to be treated with anesthesia.

Laser Surgery
In laser surgery, a very intense beam of highly focused light is used instead of a scalpel to cut through tissue. Lasers are highly efficient at making very precise incisions, and as the laser cuts; it seals small blood vessels and nerve endings around the incision, which means less bleeding, swelling, and post-operative pain for your pet.
Spaying and Neutering
Early spaying of female dogs and cats can help protect them from some serious health problems later in life such as uterine infections and breast cancer. Neutering your male pet can also lessen its risk of developing benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate gland) and testicular cancer.

X-Ray
Dental Radiology
At least 60% of cats’ and dogs’ normal tooth structure is under the gum line. Partially removing plaque and tartar from the exposed crown is more cosmetic than therapeutic. Removing the plaque and tartar from both above and below the gingiva on the lingual and buccal surfaces requires general anesthesia and results in a cosmetic as well as therapeutic outcome. General anesthesia also facilitates proper pain-free probing of each tooth’s support and the required immobilization necessary to take intraoral dental x-rays. Finally, intubation during general anesthesia protects the trachea and prevents aspiration of water and oral debris.
