My kids love to read, I have six. My youngest is 2. He was born 16 weeks premature, 1lb 5 oz, 1 foot long. he spent the first 3 months of his life fighting for it. At three weeks he had to have heart surgery! At two he, with the help of his wonderful physical therapist is now starting to walk, he however will need braces to help keep him steady. How he has gotten around is scooting on his bum or the monkey crawl, elephant crawl and finally he does now sometimes crawl. This is how he gets around, he does the best he can, with shoes its more difficult.
To have a security guard call my husband a liar about his disibility and tell him the kid needs to be off the floor and put some shoes on him, is low by all moral standards. My husband asked her if a man came in without legs and he got around on his hands and bum, would she judge the same, she said yes.
So jacksonville Public libraries are now stating to all handicapped citizens young and old, if you cant walk on legs and cannot wear shoes, and no wheel chair your not welcome here.
It is very sad, my son is a wonderful little boy, who hopefully will be a brilliant walker soon. But for now he must "scoot" and if we want to bring him into the library, he has to be pinned down in a stroller or carried like a baby. We all know 2 year olds, should he be punished even more because of his prematurity? Can this little guy get a break?!
Shame on you lady!

this site needs to allow for the card holders to be able to keep up on line with his/her library card account.
A. heep a history
B. to check amount of late fees, if any at all
C. to be allowed to view a list of all books at each location
D. to also be able to put a hold on a book / to be notifyed via e-mail & or phone call
E. to be able to renew books longer if need be/ unless it is a 7 day rental
I have made an action plan that the public of Jacksonville would be most greatful to see installed within the library
system. i would enjoy being apart of planning the setup.
