Ear Infections
Complications can also come up if you have an ear infection, low blood sugar, or recent alcohol consumption. You might also experience some vision changes. The specialist will screen you before each dive for your safety. Theyâ€™ll also assess you after each dive.
Emergency Care
80-year-old Caucasian female who presented for a chronic non healing wound due to local trauma. She sustained a wound which required 26 stitches at an urgent care center. The urgent care center removed the stitches 10 days later. After the stitches were removed, the wound dehisced and became necrotic. Patient received hyperbaric oxygen therapy, serial debridements, weekly wound care and skin substitute therapy.

51-year-old female with non-healing wounds folowing bilateral breast reconstruction with TRAM flap. Patient has a history of left breast cancer in 2008 that was treated with modified radical mastectomy followed by radiation and chemotherapy. She had a left latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap that failed. In 10/10 she had a right mastectomy and bilateral reconstruction with TRAM flap. During the two weeks prior to presentation, she began having necrosis at the margins of the left breast flap which has required surgical debridement. Necrosis is within the prior irradiated zone. Patient received hyperbaric oxygen therapy, serial debridements, and wound VAC therapy with complete healing.

Orthopedic Surgery
Crush injuries occur when body tissues are severely traumatized such as in motor vehicle accidents, falls, and gun shot wounds. These injuries frequently occur in the extremities. When used as an adjunct to orthopedic surgery and antibiotics, hyperbaric oxygen therapy shows promise as a way to decrease complications from severe crush injuries. Hyperbaric oxygen treatments increase oxygen delivery to the injured tissues, reduces swelling and provides an improved environment for healing and fighting infection.
Gangrene
Several types of infections of soft tissue may benefit from adjunct treatment with hyperbaric oxygen and are included in the category of â€œnecrotizing soft tissue infections.â€ Names of such clinical syndromes include crepitant anaerobic cellulitis, progressive bacterial gangrene, necrotizing fasciitis, and nonclostridial myonecrosis. Gas gangrene (clostridial myositis and myonecrosis) is a separate entity.
Otolaryngology
Multiple studies have affirmed that starting hyperbaric oxygen therapy early in the course of this disease confers better benefits. Both the Cochrane Review and the clinical practice guidelines of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery include hyperbaric oxygen as a reasonable addition to steroid therapy.
Hip Replacement
I wanted to try HBOT because my hip was deteriorating, which left me unable to do activities that I love like hiking, running, and biking. I was worried I might be going down the road of needing a hip replacement. But about halfway through my number of dives, the pain in my hip was gone and it was no longer buckling when I stood up. Multiple studies have shown the benefit of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in helping to heal the damage from curative radiation therapy in the pelvic region, in the head and neck, in the lower extremity for skin cancer, and in breast cancer survivors.

If you have corns or calluses, your health care provider can trim them for you. Your health care provider can also trim your toenails if you cannot do so safely.
Ulcer
Diabetic Foot Ulcers (DFUs) can be located anywhere on the foot or toes, and they can be a result of something as simple as poorly fitting shoes. Prevention of ulcers is the most effective treatment. Even though some ulcers do not hurt, every ulcer should be seen by your health care provider right away. Simply not treating an ulcer can lead to infection, particularly in the bone, and could eventually lead to the loss of a limb.

Scientific literature shows that oxygen becomes bacteriostatic (biological or chemical agent that prevents bacteria from reproducing) at 1.5 ATA.Since inflatable bags can only produce 1.3ATA they not only canâ€™t prevent bacteria from growing, they can actually enhance the growth of some molds, fungus, and aerobic bacteria.

Lymphatic treatment may vary based on the condition, presentation, and severity of the involved area(s). Whether treating lymphatic dysfunction or Lymphedema, treatment may include, but not be limited to, an assessment of the involved area, manual lymphatic drainage, skin care, compression including bandages or garments, exercises, education, and/or adjunctive devices. The gold standard for treating Lymphedema is Complete Decongestive Therapy, including the treatment components described above.
