Yorktown Middle School

Just wanted to put it out there that i think it is really sad that ur school does not offer any kind of choir program. My family and i just moved here after losing our home in Franklin and are now staying with my sister. When i enrolled my oldest daughter in Yorktown Middle School and asked about their choir program my heart sunk when i was told there was not one available until highschool, and the excuse that the reason there was no choir program because of there not being enough time in the day for it, i thought was outrageous and pathetic. Choir is something my daughter loves because music has always been an outlet for her and singing is something she uses as a coping skill to help ease her mind when she has had a bad day or gets a little stressed or even dealing with heartache. (Such as moving away from everything and everyone she's known at the age she is now). I see that there is time made for other things like football, basketball, baseball, and so on. Just as those are important to the students who participate in them, choir, for my daughter and i am sure many others is the same way. My daughter has a beautiful voice and has earned many awards for this wonderful talent, awards that may have never been achieved without her being in choir and learning how to get the best out of her talent to make her as great as she is today. This is tragic and i pray that your school will change things. As for my family, we will be here til the end of the school year, but moving back to our hometown of Franklin over the summer, but i felt i needed to say something because your students are being cheated and it is not right. Music is important and it's sad to see that you are one of the schools who believe it is not, for goodness sake, if you truly do not have enough time during the school day then create a choir program after school.
