Generally the highest rated insurance company in DC, by offering insurance and service provision across domains, Kaiser Permanente offers a wonderful integrated approach to your health and has an incentive to focus on preventive care. Over the past five years, I have benefited from their general practitioners, behavioral health, and urgent care facilities. Fortunately, one if their offices is a few blocks from where I live and all services are integrated under one roof.

Why do I not give them five stars for expertise? I do not know that they are engaged in cutting-edge research medicine and am not sure to the extent their experts consider fully how the body as a whole interacts. For example, how do nutrition and sports supplements affect mood? What could they discover if they integrated activity trackers with diagnostics? How does that interact with genetics? If they addressed more cutting-edge cross-domain expertise questions like these, they would get five stars. However, their practitioners are fully capable within their domains and Kaiser does well above average at considering the multiple domains of holistic health.
