Purchased a lift chair online to be delivered to Perry Georgia. Chair made it to Atlanta Georgia via CEVA logistics where it conveniently got lost and now all I wanted was to have another shipped. Told that it is not possible without CEVA says so. My 85 year old father is going without.

Purchased two couches from Homemakers in 2016. Leather is peeling off both couches with no extraordinary use. No animals or kids climbing on them. We simply watch television in the evenings while sitting on the couches.
They explained that the couch falling apart is "normal wear and tear". I have never heard of couches falling apart due to people sitting on them when they're only two years old. Purchased the extended warranty but apparently that does not matter either. Neither the manufacturer, nor Homemakers will make it right.
What kind of business is fine with selling goods that fall apart with normal use after two years? Don't be fooled by the feel of an upscale store. Homemakers sells cheap furniture and doesn't care about their customers. Fact

I was on the site for over 30 days looking for new sofa's that I can have in my new house. I placed an order and was told after 3 days that those sofa's are discontinued. They have charged my account and refund has not been received yet. I told them to give me different sofa's for the same price or give me some discount. The sofa's that I ordered are still available in the manufacture but homemakers saying they discontinued it. This is very upsetting and unprofessional. I asked them what if i order something else and you say this is not available. The answer was will check when I place an order.

Salesperson did not seem overly knowledgeable. When delivered, we had battery pack connection issues, and we are not totally convinced that the loveseat is the one we ordered

I and my husband purchased a mattress from Homemakers furniture on October 10th, 2016. We brought it home and upon unwrapping it, we found several small reddish spots near one corner. We knew we might want to swap the mattress, so I took time stamped photos of the spots to prove that they were there when we got the mattress.
We live about 2 hours away from the store, so we decided to go ahead and try the mattress and see if we liked it. We tried it for just under 3 months, and it was simply too firm for both of us.
On January 1st, 2017, we took the mattress back to the store in Urbandale to switch it with a different model. When we got to the store, Seth was very helpful, and we chose what model we wanted, paid for the difference, then went to drop off the original mattress and pick up the new one. They took the mattress off our truck, unwrapped it, and said they could not take it back because of the reddish stains. We showed them the photos proving the stains were there when we got it, and they said it didn’t make a difference.

Then the workers “found” a tear in the lining of the mattress’ underside. It was not there when we loaded it, and we had had the mattress wrapped both in the original plastic and in a tarp to keep it protected. We believe the tear in the fragile lining happened when the workers unloaded it. The tear was right where the straps on the side of the mattress were located, so it looked like it tore when someone was using the strap to move it.
They refused to exchange the mattress, in spite of the fact that we could prove the stains were there when we got it. They would not work with us at all. We even offered to pay extra to make up for the damage, but they refused.

Having to have people check your bag before the store is a waste of time. When you purchase the item right by the door and then they insist to go through it and make sure you purchased it all. Nothing like treating you like theives. I will no longer shop here for the rude cashiers dealing with incompetent people at the front. Not only was the lady slow at her job she was down right rude to us. If I was Homemakers, I wouldn't want people's last impression leaving the store have me with this lady. Horrible last impression.

We have made 2 purchases at this store in the past couple of months. The customer service was great & prices are reasonable when compared with other furniture stores. We purchased a Daniel's Amish table & chairs and are very happy with it!

A bit overwhelming at first, but the sales staff explained the layout, and directed me in the direction in which I was interested in. Found what I liked and assistance was great! Can't wait for my furniture.

I must say I am disappointed. Three week ago I spent almost $1000 on a memory foam king size bed. They brought it dropped it off, and all seemed fine. After about 30 minutes after drop off I noticed that the mattress had developed a bump in it on one corner. Obviously there was some kind of defect in the mattress and the stitching had come lose just from moving the mattress and one of the foam layers rolled up. Since I had a 5 year warranty on the mattress I called homemakers immediately and requested a swap. The request was granted, BUT I was going to have to wait a whole week before the swap could take place. Now mind you they did have it in stock. AND I live 5 minutes from there store. And it would take about 10 minutes to swap it off there truck. I feel like that is TOTALLY unacceptable! Since Home Makers is the biggest furniture store in Des Moines you would think they would have their act together better than that. As much furniture as they sell, they know that some of it is going to be defective or there are going to be some kind of problems. They SHOULD have a set of delivery guys that do nothing BUT swaps and replacements. I am a business owner and if I treated my customers like that I would not be in business very long. For as big as they are in the Des Moines area there is simply no excuse for the wait times that customers have to endure. There competition in the area may be smaller but they take care of their customer’s right on the spot. Now I recently went thought a divorce and am in need of replacing some furniture items in my home. I ordered the bed first, to test the waters with homemakers and also since I had not made up my mind on other items yet. I have to say I am not impressed. And I don’t think I will be ordering any of the replacement furniture from them. I am simply not willing to wait three weeks or more for delivery when spending a $1000 or more for items. There competition (for comparable or same items) would have it delivered within 48 hours. As big as homemakers is in Des Moines there is no excuse for not having a fleet of delivery trucks and personnel big enough to meet the demand. They may be the biggest right now. But that could all change with business practices like this, just to save a few bucks at the cost of their customer’s time and money. So I am finding it hard to give them a good review! Simply because of their delivery practices! And from what I can see from other reviews other have had the same problem. You would think they would correct the problem! Obviously Not! Since I see the problem goes way back. So no I would not recommend them! And I will be spending my money else ware for replacement items and with people who value there customers more than they do.

no stock. wrong colors. late delivery.

ompletely disgusted with the service (particularly delivery and lack thereof, sals of items and the lack of inventory) and the merchandise. My family spent well over $13,000 on new furniture. We were delivered our beds in a timely manner although after less than two months my mom's pricey dresser is shriveling up... The wood and the top coat is actually cracking. My bed was sent with the wrong parts to assemble and it took them THREE trips to get it right. Only the salesperson failed to mention it needed a certain bottom under the mattresses so its way too tall. Then our table wasn't in stock. It was to be delivered before the Holidays. That didn't happen. That date got pushed back more than four weeks. Ordered a couch set... Again NOT in stock. So we wait the four plus weeks... Get delivery scheduled and then get a call today telling us the chair is the WRONG color. Nervous to see what will happen with our custom order that came with a minimum 6 week wait. Just awful customer service.

Great selection and have been satisfied with all of our purchases except our mattress. Supposed to have 10 year warranty after about 5 years the mattress has a horrible indentations from when we lay. T Took 5 phone calls and two months before they actually sent to paperwork for our mattress warranty claim. Sent the claim in 45 days ago and have not heard a peep from them. I have now left 4 messages in regards to my claim status and they don't even return your phone calls. This company has never returned one of our calls ever. Poor poor customer service. I no longer care how good their selection is or how low their prices are. Bad company to do business with if you have an issue with a product.

Mattress Set

Purchased a high end mattress set and started having trouble with it several months later. They sent some novice out who told me the warranty is voided because I didn't buy their frame. I got my frame much cheaper at Slumberland. Will never do anymore business with them.

I have purchased many pieces at Homemakers and have not had any bad experiences. I have has some items that needed to be replaced because of the typical types of problems that can happen with merchandise. When I had a problem with any item, the store replaced the item. I have been a customer for many, many years. I recommend this store.

Too Big for their Britches!

I bought a high end full bedroom set from Homemakers. Loved the store, but once you write the check; you get nothing but horrible customer service and delivery!

My bedroom set was a hardwood high end set. (Supposedly Amish made.) I spent over $6,000.00 on everything. Including a new pillow top mattress.

My order had to be special ordered. I paid for everything in full. It took 13 weeks to get the bedroom set. (This was somewhat understandable being special order and everything.) Once they delivered everything I noticed the foot board was split all the way down the side of the leg. One of the dresser doors was hung way lower than the other. So I called to make my complaint. They said they wouldn't have anyone be able to come out until another 4-6 weeks. That night I slept in the bed on my supposedly new mattress. The mattress had a huge dip in the middle of it. I rolled to the middle. (You couldn't lie on one side; you would just roll right to the middle.) The mattress was clean but, no doubt was a used one. I called the next day on this also. (They told me they would send a tech out to look at the problems.)

After 6 weeks they sent out a service tech to see what the problems were. The Tech told me there was nothing that could be done about the mattress, because it had been used. (Well, I wasn't going to sleep on the floor for 6 weeks!) He then said they would order a new foot board since there was a split down the leg. It would take about another 6-8 weeks to receive it. He went over to the dresser doors, he literally pulled down with his body weight on the hinges to adjust the door to the same height as the other. (He told me "sometimes these things just need adjusted.")

To make a very long story short, after many, many phone calls I told Homemakers that I wanted them to come pick up EVERYTHING, I spent over 6 grand and I got nothing but horrible service and furniture after I wrote the check. At first they weren't going to give me a full refund. After many calls, I finally got them to pick up everything. (I had to go in to get my money.)

I do and will not recommend Homemakers to anyone. Nice big store, lots of options but, once you purchase something the service is horrible! This is what happens when stores get too big for their britches!

Happy ending? Yes, I purchased a beautiful custom made hardwood bedroom set from a small custom woodworking shop near my home. Timeless Impressions LLC in Panora, Iowa. I spent around 5,000,00 and got exactly what I wanted. I Love it! Never had a single problem. From now on, I don't shop at the big box stores!

Horrible Customer Service

While the store has a good selection once you make a purchase you are on your own. Due to the unsatisfactory customer service one should be wary of Homemakers of Des Moines. The delivery people don't remove their shoes or even ask your preference. After the first delivery I had to have them return to fix the bed. It was still not up to scratch. The men sent out to make the repair called it in assuring someone esle would come out a THIRD time to repair it correctly. Nothing. I now have another problem with a cooling unit. THe inside pane of the double paned glass was broken badly. I never opened the box (with styrofoam bottom and sides) which the unit was brought to me until recently. When I called to have a new unit to replace the broken one I was told there is a ten day return policy and they no longer stock that particular brand. I didn't open the box, by which the unit was supposedly protected, so that it would remain safe due to a job transfer and I could move it safely. Interestingly, not one item was broken during this move except the interior pane of a double paned cooler door protectively wrapped by styrofoam in front and in back. The customer care agent said there was no way of knowing how it came to be broken thereby suggesting I had done it. How contemptuous! So, one must open everything immediately upon delivery to check what is broken and what isn't. Do not go on vacation or wait until YOU are ready to open your new purchases because if there is a problem you will be forced to sit around waiting for the 1. delivery man that is late. 2. The merchandise is in someway damaged so you get to wait another day for the repair person, or 3. Your plan to preserve the integrity of what you purchased may be broken and customer service inferring that it was YOU and not them to blame.
