The Gold Hut

I usually buy silver online at provident metals since their prices are fair, but figured I'd check around the urbana area to see if anyone was selling silver locally at a reasonable price. I thought it would be cool to support local businesses and expected to pay a little more, maybe $1 or $2 higher then online prices (minus taxes).

So I decided to stop by this place. The first guy I met at the front desk was easy to talk to. He told me that all coins, even silver eagles, were $2 above spot. I thought that was very reasonable. Unfortunately, they didn't have any in stock that day, so I told him I'd keep checking.

I stopped in again a few months later. A different guy was at the front desk (the owner). He seemed ok until I asked what the prices of the coins were. He said they usually get $3.00 above spot for rounds. I kept looking around, and asked what the silver eagles were. He said they were $9.00 above spot! So he was charging much higher then the other guy I first talked to.

I told him his coins were more expensive then anywhere else, and he said I should just go shop there (makes sense, lol). I said I would, but asked him why he charged so much out of curiosity. He got mad and threatened to call the police (grabbed the phone to act like it, too) and asked me to get out.

What a weirdo..strange way of interacting with customers. If you want to get ripped off, buy coins from this guy. He obviously depends on the people who don't know anything about spot prices. The fairest prices are online or at the other local pawnshops. It was cute being asked to get out, maybe you should ask about his pricing, too, if you're having a dull day. Cheers. :)
