The people who work there make...

The people who work there make me feel confident in their knowledge of animal health. There is also a feeling of ease that is the direct result of genuine concern shown by the staff. My dog was treated by Richmond road for three days and I knew that was going to be stressful. I was comforted by their desire to help my dog feel better. I can say with confidence my pet was in the best hands.

Comprehensive Examination
Today's modern anesthetic monitors have made surgery much safer than in the past. Here at Richmond Road Animal Hospital, we do a thorough physical exam on your pet before administering anesthetics, to ensure that a fever or other illness won't be a problem. We also adjust the amount and type of anesthetic used depending on the health of your pet. The handout on anesthesia explains this in greater detail.

Hip Dysplasia Treatment
We can perform lower and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, cystotoscopy, laprascopy and arthroscopy. We are also certified to perform Penn Hip evaluations for hip dysplasia.
Thyroid Disease Treatment
Every 12 months - Senior Health Profile (comprehensive internal organ screen including Thyroid testing, electrolytes and red and white cell counts and urine specific gravity)
Heart Disease Treatment
Anesthesia: We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide that extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high risk patients. Using the most modern equipment, the patient's vital signs are monitored during all anesthetic procedures this includes doppler blood pressure, end tidal co2, pulse ox and ecg. Our veterinary technicians provide constant monitoring and maintenance of the pet from time the patient is asleep until the animal is awake. Besides using deligent anesthesia, we use aggressive analgesia to control post op pain including epidural and constant rate infusion.

Wound and Fracture Care
Richmond Road Animal Hospital is a well-established, full-service, small animal veterinary hospital providing comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care. We work closely with other veterinarians to provide orthopedic services such as back surgery, fracture repairs and cruciate repairs. Cruciate repairs include Cora Based TPLO (CBLO).

Spaying and Neutering
Spaying or neutering can be done at approximately 6 months of age. Your pet is given an exam prior to surgery to help determine whether your pet is healthy enough to undergo the surgical procedure. Current vaccinations are required at the time of surgery. Also a pre-anesthetic blood screen is recommended prior to undergoing anesthesia and surgery.

Laboratory Services
We require blood testing before surgery, which we will go over with you when you bring your pet in. Our doctors prefer the more comprehensive screen, because it gives them the most information to ensure the safety of your pet. For geriatric or ill pets, additional blood tests, electrocardiograms, or x-rays may be required before surgery as well.
