Endometriosis is a condition that occurs in women when the inner uterus lining starts to grow outside of the uterus, often behind the uterus, on the bowels, or on the bladder. Endometriosis is most commonly diagnosed among women in their 30s and 40s, but the onset of the condition typically starts during reproductive years.

Primary dysmenorrhea: Severe menstrual pain begins within the first couple of years of menstruation. The uterine lining naturally produces prostaglandins, which are chemicals that cause the muscle of the uterus to contract. Women with dysmenorrhea may produce more prostaglandins which results in abnormally strong uterine contractions. Primary dysmenorrhea usually lessens with time, particularly after childbirth.

Laparoscopy. A tiny camera will be inserted into a small incision in the lower abdomen in order for the doctor to observe the ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus. Your physician will also be able to see any scarring or evidence of Endometriosis.
