Early 2011; They called, offering ad placement on an 8.5"x11" refrigerator magnet that would double as a dry-erase board and be placed in a local apartment complex before new tenants moved in. After refusing their first offer, they said that the price was based on the size of the ad and offered me smaller ad sizes for less money. I said no again, and they offered me the smallest ad size at about half price.

Almost a month later, they emailed me a proof of the ad for me to approve. I did, and they were payed.

The deal slipped my mind...

6 MONTHS LATER! ; Fearing I had been scammed, I contacted them to ask why I didn't receive my copy of the magnet. They said that the apartment complex had made last minute modifications to the dry erase magnets, causing them to need to be reprinted, but they were scheduled to send them out the very last week of that very same month. (what a coincidence eh?)

Over one month later; I finally received 2 copies of the magnets with our ad on it.

I was reading about other phone scams online today, which reminded me of this deal and it occurred to me that, like a dummy, I had never followed up with the apartment complex. RMD emailed me, thanking me on behalf of the apartment complex, but I've never spoken with the apartment management directly until today. The apartments must have a high turnover rate, like most, because they say they were not there last year, but have never seen the magnets, and will get back to me.

Questions I don't have proven answers to yet;

Did they really collaborate with the apartments?

If so...

...did they make them for the apartments?

...did the apartments use them?

A few things I am certain of; is that the apartments would have had to benefit from the deal somehow, and I doubt a free dry erase board would be enough, but maybe so. I do my part and ask nearly every new customer (probably 97%) how they discovered us and not one has mentioned the magnet. Also, if being payed, what incentive would the apartments have to use the magnets in their rentals?

I'm pretty certain I've been taken...please don't do the same.

I included RDM in a marketing plan by using their magnets at an apartment complex. I was very happy with the magnets, they looked very professional, and it made me look good to the apartment manager. If you use them as a part of your in personmarketing strategy, it will work well.
