Overall

Firstly I would just like to state that Koch Martial Arts @ Krav Maga Worldwide in Pompano Beach are by far one of the best instructors in Krav Maga in the area! I started out with very little background training in other martial art disciplines and quickly excelled to the next level in KM within 6 months. By my second year of training with KMW I was already a KMW certified level 1 trainer. Coming to this establishment was probably one of the best things I could have done in my life; I now can say that I walk around with the upmost confidence. Through Koch Martial Arts training @ KMW, I have never felt better physically and mentally. The teachings instilled in me have become a part of my everyday lifestyle.

Now to address this disgruntled former student…He clearly lacks any respect and consideration for his colleagues. I can’t tell you how many times when it came down to sparring…he would say, “Oh this is my first time let’s go 10%”. I would reply, “sure thing” and begin with my 10%. But no, he clearly lacks an understanding of what 10% means when a kick that is coming to your kidneys or your head is at 150%. His excuse? I got scared. I am not the only one that shares this sentiment at KMW.

I love how he states that KMW held him back to gain more money out of him. He had this mindset that because he was this “black belt” in taekwondo that he could do Krav Maga no problem. Krav Maga is not an art, it is a self-defense system designed to get you home safe. Sure, we may use some kicks that are found in taekwondo but it is a completely different type of skill set. As a side note…I don’t believe someone with a black belt in taekwondo should fall after performing most kicks…I am not expert, just saying. He constantly stated that he wanted to test in the next level and that the instructors would not let him. I can tell you first hand why they wouldn’t. When he came to train, he would just walk around the room, messing with the bag, not really partnering up and when he did, he would just be the aggressor, he wouldn’t want to practice. When push came to shove and he was forced to perform the techniques, he would forget and fail a simple technique, such as a choke from the front.

Now, it may be true that the instructor follows a textbook guided lesson system but do not misinterpret what that means. Krav Maga Worldwide has a nation-wide curriculum that requires each branch to teach. The instructor follows that curriculum for the most part. More importantly though, he always incorporates techniques from his former martial arts background to improve the technique, provide a variation, or to make the technique appropriate for the person’s needs or physical limitations. The techniques were never textbook rigid.

Lastly, I would just like to point out that this former student didn’t last even 3 months. How could someone give an accurate review with just 3 months in training? It is true that KMW will bring you to high level of proficiency in a short period of time. Within a couple months you will already have learned how to defend yourself against basic street attacks. But in order learn the higher risk situations you need be training for more than just 3 months.

Firstly, I wish to comment on Max123ob & MmaAlex display of dissatisfaction. Max123ob (aka MmaAlex) is actually very well know at Koch Martial Arts & Fitness Training Center. He was the very first EVER to be kicked out of the school - Congrats! In all honesty, I would not have expected any less of him to leave a negative review on YELP because this is precisely his character. His cowardly nature is fond of talking behind people’s backs and then faces them with a smile. Would he confront the person he had qualms about or try to constructively solve the issue in a mature manner? Nah, he loved the trash talk and would feed any ear with his “insight” on the matter. An individual that achieved a first degree black belt in another martial art discipline, one would expect from that individual to be respectful, humble and perhaps receptive to other disciplines, but he was the polar opposite. Max123ob claimed to be held back in Krav Maga in level 1, but funny how he would literally freeze when someone would perform a common level 1 choke on him. WORST response is NO response! Clearly, this individual is NOT ready to advance to the next level when he cannot even defend himself, or even respond to hands clenching your throat. Max123ob may be a black belt in Taekwondo, but Max123ob is a white belt in Krav Maga! This pompous, ostentatious individual could not grasp that notion. However, sparring sessions seemed to be the opportunistic moment he could flare his “talent”. How? By simply trying to decapitate your head with kicks at almost full force. NO sportsmanship, NO sense of respect, NO concern of the others ability to protect themselves from black belt Taekwondo kicks.

Secondly, I wish to mention my personal experience being 2.5 years in the Krav Maga Worldwide training center. The school is wonderful. Not only have I acquired self defense skills to face multiple scenarios, I have also grown stronger mentally. Mental growth arises by constantly pushing your limits. Testing your capabilities under extreme fatigue is most effective because it prepares you for defense under non-ideal conditions, nevertheless, realistic conditions. Will you cave or will you defend? As much as it is physical it is mental, no doubt about that! At the end of the day, this is a self defense system; this is not an art or some sort of sport. It is designed to get the job done and get you home safe. Moreover, Krav Maga was developed with easy-to-learn techniques that come about naturally; thus, providing a higher likelihood of performance under stress or fatigue conditions. Logically, under attack there is not much “thinking” time, thus, we leave it to our innate response to get us home safe. Randall is by far the most skillful person I know in martial arts. He is proficient in many martial art disciplines and his didactic nature along with his creative lesson plans provides a fun as well as an educational experience. I will not recommend any other place but Koch Martial Arts & Fitness to learn Krav Maga and improve physical performance. As a bonus you will gain confidence, mental strength and the skills to defend yourself.

@MmaAlex

It looks like you’re confused about what you signed up for. Based off of your comment, it looks like you are looking for a place where you can take what you already know and use it how you already have to continue to strengthen what you’ve already been taught. People who sign up for Krav Maga are there to learn Krav Maga. The fact that they have previous backgrounds only assist with the variations they could use when applying Krav Maga. Randall teaches a structured class that IS textbook dependent, but flexible to your body type and outside knowledge. The fact that you are complaining so much about textbook/structured teaching only shows how selfish and inconsiderate you are towards anyone but yourself. But after everything you’ve said, you’re right about one thing; “This place will prevent you from being in a better position to defend urself”….if you swear you’re gods gift to martial arts. Good riddance…

@Max123ob

Didn’t take me much time to test into higher levels (notice the s at the end of level). Small location reduces quality? Last I checked, small locations keep class sizes small which increases attention per student. I’ve taught as much as I’ve been taught but that isn’t to be mistaken by who is teaching the class. At times, more experienced students get paired with beginners and throughout the class, knowledge transfers occur. I can’t understand how having active students like that would degrade the quality of a school. The floor being “HARDWOOD” is irrelevant to ground fighting because the mats that are used when ground fighting takes place, covers over 90% of the hardwood. If you are complaining about the 10% you “may” touch, then perhaps marital arts wasn’t meant for you.

My current/ongoing Experience-

I’ve been there for a little under two years and I feel so much more confident and happy than before. Randall is an awesome instructor and has yet to lead me in the wrong direction. I ask questions. I pick his brain. I place him in scenarios and I expect him to be able to provide acceptable results. Up to this day, he has not failed me. I know I’m not an easy student and my questions don’t come with quick answers. I speak for many more when I say that I drive 40+ minutes one way twice a week JUST to be taught by him. I came to Randall because I did not want to spend time and money learning one form of martial arts or compete. I wanted to learn the most effective way to defend myself and I have accomplished at least one effective escape to anything I can ever think I’d get put into. No, you will not become a master at Jui Jitsu or any concentrated martial arts but YES, you will be much more knowledgable in affective transitioning and reactions to situations that concentrated martial arts would slow you down in.

I have been learning Krav Maga for about 2 years at this location and could not be happier. Classes are well prepared and structured, and the place has everything needed to recreate some real-life scenarios and master the techniques. Instructors are very nice, knowledgeable, and they would work hard to make sure you learn and improve in every class. Whether you are an expert in martial arts or just throwing your first punches, there is room for you in class. I can assure you that it would be an enjoyable experience that will give you the confidence to defend yourself if facing a dangerous situation. You will be amazed by what you can do with some time and dedication.

Regarding those earlier bogus reviews, I have to say that you have to understand that if you sign up, you are going to be a student, not the instructor of something you do not know. You are wrong if you think that you will be just advanced to the upper levels because you have some experience in another martial art. You have to do the work and you have to learn the techniques and the ways of Krav Maga. Beside that - and this goes for life in general, you do have to respect other people.

This review is from the repres...

This review is from the representatives of Krav Maga Worldwide Official Training Center in Pompano Beach, FL. It is a response to the reviews posted by "Max123ob" and "MmaAlex".

The three negative reviews between "Max123ob" and "MmaAlex" are very suspicious and we believe they are actually from the same person who is a disgruntled former student who was expelled from our program. These are the reasons why:

1. Our current business location has been open for almost 4 years and there are no other reviews of any kind on this page except from these "two" people. It's an extreme coincidence that out of a 4 year period they both happened to post negative reviews on the exact same day! Also, the tone, sentence structure, grammatical errors, etc. are very similar between the two reviews.

2. These two negative reviews were posted the very next day after we terminated the membership of one of our students due to numerous complaints about him from the entire staff of instructors (there was six of us at the time), as well as a half dozen different students. We have taught Krav Maga for almost a dozen years, martial arts in general for almost twenty years, and instructed over 1,000 adult students. During this entire period we have NEVER had to kick out an adult student except for this individual. Please keep in mind, this student did not quit our program. He was EXPELLED from our program!

3. The two points above are a huge reflection on the character, or should we say...lack of character, this individual has demonstrated and should be strongly considered by anyone who reads his reviews.

We have a long list of rebuttals to all the erroneous accusations presented in those reviews. We have to omit this due to the Yellow Pages review length restrictions of 4,000 characters or less. However, anyone can read our full response at this web address:

http://www.kravmagatraining.com/YellowPagesReviews.htm

The bottom line is this: This former student DID NOT QUIT our program. He was KICKED OUT by us!

This place holds you back to k...

This place holds you back to keep you in the beginners section so they can make more money off you. This is definitely not the place to go to if you want to learn and improve.

Also its a very small location, the instructor is rude. Uses his students to teach classes he doesnt feel like conducting... this makes the place such poor quality... the students themselves are no where near teaching quality. Max people can fit in that place is maybe 12-15 without bumping into people while training. The floor is made of HARDWOOD and learning ground fighting is completely uncomfortable.... sometimes they will put some small matt on the floor which sucks even more because it constantly moves and its just small!! they say this is practical place but if you have any previous experience this is not the place to go too.... even if you wanted a free class to check it out they wont let you... only watch which is horrible because on the day you come the instructor makes it appear decent. Once you join you will see all the flaws... if you have previous experience don't come here go find another location.... this place will have alot of beginners as that's the only people that will stay as they have no knowledge and will believe anything the instructor sais.

No good at all..

Been to much better schools where the instructor incorporates more of his knowledge then just text book teachings... Studyin here is like studying from a book. And if you have any previous experience you will not be aloud to incorporate it together to make urself an even better fighter. The instructor will condemn these actions and prevent you from moving on untill u learn the "text book" curriculum. In my opionion that is not self defense when you have to learn one specific way and one way only... Scenerios are different, things change and not always things work out like the "books" say... This place will prevent you from being in a better position to defend urself. We all know following the books is not always the best thing to do. In any scenerio, Things are not black and white. When it becomes self defense.. Its always grey area! If you have any previous experience this place is deffinetly not for you... And any great testimonials are given for in exchange for free pads or a one time discount on any item... Bribery!!!!
