Walter's Coffee Shop

Very disappointing experience at Walter's Coffee Shop in Palmetto Bay.

As a young child, I remember my father taking me to Walter's Coffee Shop on occasion. I loved the food and the staff were great. Fast forward 30 plus years...

In Cutler Bay - or as I remember it - Cutler Ridge for my high school reunion, I visited a number of old haunts. Walter's Coffee Shop was one such stop.

Sitting at the front counter, Rob was my server. Nice enough, but not a great server. I ordered coffee, followed by the Coaches Favorite - corned beef hash, potatoes, and toast. I requested onions to be added to the potatoes.

Coffee came quick enough, but no water. Meal arrived shortly thereafter and I dug in. Tasteless, in a word. Corned beef hash was cooked crisp on the outside, but was totally tasteless. Potatoes had sauteed onions rather than the onions I typically find on the same meal elsewhere.

I had to request water, ketchup, and a refill on my coffee. Sitting at the counter in an almost empty restaurant, I shouldn't have to do that. Eating only a third of my meal, Rob never provided another refill of my coffee following the first.

While eating breakfast, I found myself tracking a fly buzzing around the front counter. While the fly never actually landed on my food, it was a distracting experience. I hate flies.

A bit disappointing, I won't return to Walter's Coffee Shop. It's time to say good bye to this old haunt.

I have already logged in three visits to this gem! The meatloaf is like mom would make. The sandwiches, salads, and patty melts are great! Very homey and friendly! Prices are really good. Keep it up!

I live just next to the little shopping strip where Walter's is located. This was my first visit and for sure not the last one. A pretty-packed place for a Sunday morning. An extensive menu. I had an omelette that came with home-made potatoes (still in my mind) and a buttermilk pancake as a side, huge, the size of the plate, and very, very good. Wonder how come I had not been to this place before. Highly-recommended folks!
