Cedar Crest Apartments

The manager at Cedar Crest is extremely rude, arrogant and has no business being in a customer service field. I made several complaints about the smell of cigarette smoke and the odor of marijuana inside my apartment (which was in a non-smoking building) and the manager advised me that it was alright to smoke. The manager dismissed my complaints without ever coming to my apartment to see what I was talking about. However on 10-16-2018, I was awakened at 5:30 am by the SWAT team, ATF (alcohol, tobacco and firearms) team and several uniformed officers / canines who had surrounded my building, broke down my neighbors door and made an arrest of 5 individuals. They also removed several weapons and drugs from the apartment. Amazing, but the smell of marijuana that was contstantly coming through the air vents is now gone. Maybe if they had investigated my complaints this situation could have been avoided. Doesn't say much for the safety of the complex either

Its like a perfectly perfect doughnut on the outside and when you attempt to take a bite, you realize there was no doughnut....just a hole. Do research tenant rights acts, get local help city /state ext. Know your rights way ahead of time before signing anything. My family moved into Cedar Crest (also owned by Peterson Co) in Overland Park in June. We could not see our initial apartment until the day we moved in, only to find out that it reeked of pet urine and the carpet was absolutely disgusting (mildew, stains, frayed, could not take my shoes off). We tried to work with management to see if they'd replace the carpet as we didn't want our new furniture to absorb the smell. After three hours of no negotiation from them (we only asked for new carpet) and our moving crew standing around waiting, our only options were to leave with our deposit (minus the "application fee") or move into a bigger apartment for $137 more per month and half the discount/special they were offering at the time. They would not replace the carpet as the apartment was technically "occupied"....because we signed the contract, though we weren't allowed to see the apt before we signed. Given it took two weeks for the background checks to be finalized at this place we had nowhere else to go. Upon moving into our bigger apartment, we had mold around the fireplace, our largest kitchen cabinet was broken, the sliding door is only held shut with a bar/dowel rod, light fixture globes were missing, however, the carpet was new and that was all I wanted at that point. The office put in orders for the repairs in June, however, 3 months later nothing had been fixed. My husband and I had to make do ourselves. Recently, after finding water and mold along the wall and carpet (and some of our brand new boxes) in our den/storage room, I discovered that maintenance is working on the community laundry room that shares a wall with our apt, the pipes apparently had been leaking, which caused our carpet to also get wet. The problems appear to never be ending which is unfortunate as I really like this location. Maintenance staff and leasing agents appear to be friendly and try with what little authority they have. However, the property manager Nicole Collins and assistant property manager Lauren Williams are driving this place into the ground. They belittle others, are disrespectful and are very unprofessional. Our attempts at negotiating with the regional manager, Marilyn Lite, were also unsuccessful as she was never available, we were always forwarded to her voicemail. I have never experienced such poor workmanship with such a company before.
