U-Haul Moving & Storage of Odenton

The local staff are usually very accommodating, but "corporate" uHaul is a very not-customer-friendly organization to deal with! I tried to prepay for a year, but asked for a discount of even 5% (military orders). They wouldn't do it.



Considering they pay 3-5% in credit card fees alone, you would think they would offer me some type of break. Nope! Then, I wanted to move out 1 day into the next month's rental period. Would they pro-rate anything off my $200 monthly rent? Again, no way! Talk about being inflexible in an economic time that demands flexible thinking. I've had a rental unit for over a year with them...loyalty does not pay here, folks!



The units are older, and not very well-sealed against the elements, spiders, etc. Indoor units have no interior lighting (just the light from the hallway). Limited access hours means no late-night moving of your stuff after work. I once had my stuff stuck in their freight elevator for hours because the door keeps breaking (in the C building) and it didn't open.



Staffing numbers are never adequate enough to handle uHaul truck rentals, storage unit sales, and regular-ole customer service. It's not the employees' fault, but "corporate" sets the labor cost targets (according to the staff I've spoken to over the time I've been renting here). Heaven forbid ever wanting to call and speak to someone from the actual facility. They're always too busy to answer the phone, which then switches you to the national call center operator.



Parking is cramped at the storage units, with rental uHaul trucks taking up most of the available lot space on most weeks. If you have an indoor unit upstairs, then you have to park at one of only two end-of-building stairwells. There's usually only room for one vehicle, maybe two, so plan accordingly.



For the poor condition of the storage units, lack of climate control (or lighting), limited entry times, and lack of overall uHaul company (corporate) customer service, I would recommend finding a different storage provider.



The only thing that is a positive is the employees (but not manager). They know the deal, and try within their limited area of control to make things better. But management and up? NOT in it for the customer...
