Bed Bugs
Bat bugs are a specific species of insect that is related to the bed bug that afflicts humans. They look almost identical to bed bugs and a microscope is required to differientiate the species. We suspect that many bed bug complaints are really misdiagnosed bat bug problems. Many pest companies are not looking (or trained) to identify bats in the attic space. If you are finding these bugs in the bathroom sink, or on the ceiling, then the source of the problem may be the attic! The bugs can make their way through bathroom vents or recessed lights to get inside the home. Often, a pest control technician has to look at the behavior to determine the species! Additionally, bats can go undetected in attic spaces for many years, and you may not be aware that there is a problem.

Bed Bugs

Fleas
Like any wild animal that is found in Michigan, bats can be afflicted with a number of parasites. Bats can carry insects such as mites, fleas and bat bugs. These insects feed on all of the bat species found in Michigan, and are most frequently associated with bats that roost in colonies, such as the Big Brown Bat.
Bees
Bee Suit: A bee suit is necessary during the hot summer months when both bats and bees are active. We frequently need to caulk and seal around bees and wasps. A bee suit can take the edge off, when your are on top of a ladder and wasps fly out.
Wasps
You have heard it before, safety must be considered first. Prepare for the unexpected. Risks include: exposure to bats, bee hives, wasps, slips on roofs, and falls from ladders. Are you prepared to handle heights safely?
Flies
Female Northern Long-eared Bats form small colonies, while the males roost alone during the summer. This bat sports a pale to dark brown coat and and have a 10 inch wingspan. The Long-eared bat typically flies in forested areas and will capture insects in flight or on the ground. They prefer to roost in hollow trees or under bark, and are rarely found under shutters.
Beetles
Large colonies consisting of juvenile bats and adults alike, take to the skies in August. You won't see them flying in tight formations, like America’s finest air force pilots. However, they do utilize a similar form of radar called echolocation to dominate the night. They strike beetles, moths, and other flying insects with ease. This explains their erratic flight patterns. If you see a flight path over your home, then you know that there is a colony nearby. “Bat detectors” can be used to pick up their radar frequency and help identify their location. These detectors can come in handy if one of the young cadets is flying a mission around your bedroom.
Moths
Mites
Dermatitis - A common skin irritation in Michigan. One of the many different causes (other than our harsh dry winters) is bites from mites that live in homes infested by mice.

Bats
If you are planning to get a new roof, the process nearly always removes much of the sealing that we do during a bat exclusion. It is usually best to get the new roof completed before starting a bat exclusion. Make sure that you don't obstruct active entry points and lock bats inside. There are usually plenty of construction gaps to allow bats out, so locking bats inside is rare (but it can happen). Roofers can do a great job keeping water out of the home, but bats are a different story. It will take a team approach.
Wildlife
When we started to envision the business back in 2005, we knew that we are going to put together a wildlife firm. When we initially thought of putting together a logo, we wanted to have a spirited, friendly critter with some personality represent our culture. We realized that some wildlife scare people, and that is not our style. We wanted to educate our customers about wildlife problems without escalating the fear that they already were experiencing.

Rodents
Rodents are mammals that can be identified by their inciser teeth. An interesting fact about rodents is that their front teeth are very prominent and never stop growing. Rodents must continiously look for items to chew to help wear down their teeth.
Mice

Squirrels
Previously, the only solution was to use a black roofing foam to secure the ridge vent to the roof (not impacting ventilation). While this method is successful, it is not necessarily a permanent solution and periodic maintenance can be required. For example, while bats do not gnaw, other critters such as mice and squirrels can chew through foam. Also, UV rays from the sun can break down the roofing foam over time. It is also true that plastic ridge vents themselves can be gnawed thorugh by squirrels. Now, we have options that can reinforce this weakpoint!
