Doctors recognize allergic conjunctivitis by its typical symptoms and appearance. If you are suffering from allergic pink eye, an eye examination will likely reveal redness in the white of your eye and small bumps inside your eyelids. An eye examination will also help your doctor rule out bacterial and viral conjunctivitis.Â

Endoscopy
The upper endoscopy will allow the doctor to inspect the esophagus for signs of eosinophilic esophagitis, which include white spots, swelling, horizontal rings and more. Itâ€™s possible for the esophagus to look normal, in which case the doctor may want to take a biopsy of the esophagus during the endoscopy.

True hives are red,Â itchy, usually raised lesions that lookÂ very much like mosquito bites. TheyÂ are often round or oval but can be Â irregularly shaped. Their size mayÂ vary from Â¼ inch to several inchesÂ in diameter. They may blendÂ together. Each spot lasts anywhereÂ from 4-36 hours and is surroundedÂ by normal looking skin. As theyÂ resolve the skin looks normal, notÂ flaky or rough. While the hives areÂ present one spot will be resolvingÂ while another nearby is developing.Â In about 40% of cases localized swelling (angioedema) of the lips, eyelids, hands, feet or tongue also occurs.

Psoriasis
While both eczema and psoriasis cause skin rashes, they differ in appearance and triggers. With psoriasis, itchiness may sting and the rash may be thicker and more inflamed. Psoriasis may also be triggered by sunburn or a recent vaccination. On the other hand, eczema is extremely itchy and may look swollen, scaly or crusty. Eczema may be triggered by a wide range of irritants, such as chemicals or allergens. Another telling sign? Psoriasis is rare in babies and young children, while eczema is quite common.
