Dental Examination
At Edina Dental Care, you are a collaborative member of your oral health team. Your introduction to this team starts with your New Patient Exam, an interactive and comprehensive exam that may be unlike any you have received. This exam will provide us with the background we need to fully understand your oral health situation.
X-rays

Teeth Cleaning
Regular checkups and teeth cleanings play an important role in your oral health. We understand it may be hard to find time for a dental visit and we will do our best to be as accommodating as possible.
Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride treatments also provide another level of protection against decay. Edina Dental Care offers fluoride varnish, a relatively new and more palatable fluoride treatment. Since we apply a small amount of highly concentrated fluoride directly to the surface of your teeth, you shouldn't experience an unpleasant taste. Following treatment, the varnish remains on the teeth for several hours, making it a more effective way to prevent decay than traditional fluoride treatments.
Dental Sealants
Dental sealants are a plastic material that acts as a barrier against decay-causing bacteria. The sealants are typically applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth (premolars and molars) where the risk of decay is highest. It only takes a few minutes to apply a dental sealant to a tooth. As long as the sealant remains intact, the tooth will be protected. During your regular checkup, Dr. Kratz will check the condition of your dental sealants to make sure they are keeping your teeth protected.

Fillings
Resin Composite
Dr. Michael Kratz can apply and bond tooth-colored resin to a tooth’s surface to restore chipped or worn enamel, fill a cavity, increase the dimensions of a tooth, or cover intrinsic stains and fillings. He applies the resin freehand in layers and sculpts it to result in the ideal dimensions and surface smoothness for the tooth. Because composite resin comes in an extensive range of shades, Dr. Kratz can select the shade that matches the natural enamel of your teeth. The result is a seamless restoration that blends completely into your smile.
Veneers
Porcelain veneers offer the most lifelike results and, also, strengthen teeth. When veneer treatment is performed by an expert, the results are predictably successful and long-lasting.
Crowns
Crowns are quite durable, and with proper care, can last decades. The advanced materials and exact fit of today’s crowns ensure your crowned tooth will look like a natural, healthy tooth. Each type of material has its advantages. Dr. Kratz will discuss the alternatives with you and guide you in making the right choice.
Bridges
After one or more teeth are lost, a prosthetic tooth or teeth can be suspended between two crowns that cover natural teeth at either end of the gap. This is called “crown and bridge” treatment. If only one natural tooth is available to support the bridge, a cantilevered bridge might be possible. Not only does a crown and bridge prosthesis restore the smile, it prevents teeth from drifting out of position, helps maintain facial shape, and restores the ability to chew and speak normally. If you have been wearing a partial removable denture, you might want to upgrade to a fixed bridge to improve your eating function and smile confidence.
Dental Bonding
A front tooth with a failing and unaesthetic filling was restored to its natural beauty with a direct composite bonding technique in one appointment.
Restorative Dentistry
Your treatment may be done “full speed ahead” or approached in phases, depending on your circumstances and preferences. When your mouth is restored to optimal condition, according to a comprehensive treatment plan, you will likely require less restorative dentistry over your lifetime.

Root Canal Treatment
I came to Edina Dental Care after the 6th root canal on the same molar from my prior dentist and needless to say I was on guard. The staff and Dr. Kratz eased any qualms I had in my first visit. Dentures
Dr. Kratz will recommend regular checkups to monitor the health of your oral tissues and the fit of your dentures. Dentures typically need to be relined every few years as bone tissue resorbs and the shape of the jaw and overlying gum tissue changes.
Overdentures
Periodontal disease, tooth decay, and injury can all cause the loss of natural teeth. Today, there are alternative treatments for restoring the function of your mouth and the appearance of your smile. If you have lost all or some of your teeth, a custom-fit denture provides a functional removable replacement for missing teeth. A partial-removable denture can fill in space left by one or more missing teeth and be held in place with attachments on natural teeth. A complete overdenture provides a removable replacement for an entire arch of teeth and is held in place by suction, muscle control, and denture adhesive.

By wearing a sequence of aligning trays (called “aligners”) on the upper and lower arches of your teeth, the roots of your teeth will be gently moved into optimal place. You will appreciate the clearness of the aligners and their smoothness. Because Invisalign aligners are removable, you can take them out for special occasions, and you will always remove them to eat and clean your teeth.
Braces
Dr. Kratz and our staff recommend the use of sportsguards during any physical activity where there may be contact with other participants or hard surfaces. Wearing a sportsguard can prevent serious injuries such as broken teeth, jaw fractures, cerebral hemorrhage and neck injuries. They are also effective in preventing laceration and bruising of the lips and cheeks, especially for those who wear braces or other orthodontic appliances. Sportsguards may also reduce the severity and incidence of concussions.
