Our comprehensive evaluation includes the measurement of visual acuity, color vision, binocular vision and depth perception, focusing ability, prescription for glasses, health assessment to detect cataracts, macular degeneration, and glaucoma, and a computerized peripheral vision analysis. We also offer high-resolution digital retinal imaging ( opto map® ) to aid in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of both eye and general health conditions. We will listen to and address all your questions and concerns.
Macular Degeneration
O pto map® ) captures a high-resolution digital scan of the macula, retina, optic nerve, and blood vessels for the early detection of eye diseases (macular degeneration, retinal detachment, glaucoma, melanoma) as well as general health problems (high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, cancer). The o pto map® does NOT replace Pupil Dilation (the standard technique used to examine the health of the eyes) but is complementary to it and is an excellent alternative if dilation is not convenient for you at the time of your visit. Early disease detection is vital to preserving a healthy eye and body; we strongly recommend Retinal Imaging for every patient. Since the o pto map® is typically not covered by vision insurance, our fee for this optional diagnostic test is $39.00.
Laser Eye Surgery
Dr. Lau is a native of San Francisco. After receiving a degree in Physiology-Anatomy from U.C. Berkeley, he went on to earn his doctorate from the U.C. Berkeley School of Optometry. He then completed a one-year residency program in Hospital-Based/Rehabilitative Optometry at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Palo Alto. He is licensed to practice optometry to the fullest extent by the state of California. Dr. Lau is a member of the American Optometric Association, California Optometric Association, Bay Area Optometric Council, and Santa Clara County Optometric Society. A successful contact lens wearer for over 25 years, Dr. Lau had LASIK eye surgery in June 2008.
