Overall

I drive 2 hours to go to Dr. Cannon's clinic. They are that good! I have a dog rescue and everybody at the clinic has been efficient, gentle with the animal, thorough in examining the dogs and both Dr. Cannon and Dr. Asbury are excellent surgeons.

Overall

Took my little dog in last year because she was drinking huge amounts of water, They checked her for diabetes, I ask how about the kidneys, I was told I was overprotective and nothing was wrong with her. She never stopped drinking large amounts of water. This past month she began dropping weight even though she was eating. I began feeding her oatmeal and chicken which she liked and was eating but still picky , still anxious about her daily treats, no problem with bowels but urinated alot and her breath had an odd odor. Her teeth were solid because I had had them cleaned last year and they stated they were in good shape for a dog her age and the amount of plague removed she should have good teeth along time. I again took her in, this time she was reportedly in the last stages of renal (kidney) failure, blood work horrible. I was told that a subcutaeous fluid may help flush the kidneys and liver but the outcome was bad. They told me because she was old she could not be put to sleep to have her teeth cleaned. I was alright with that. I picked her up the same day, she was disoriented but I thought it was the procedure. When I got her home she had a bloody bowel movement and bleeding in the mouth, she was would do nothing but lay in her bed and only get up to barely walk to the door to go out and use the bathroom. When I tried to feed her she would not eat, anything, just drink a little water. I checked her mouth, her front upper teeth were missing. The day before I had brushed her teeth trying to help her breath and all of her teeth were there, I used a small soft toddler tooth brush and dog toothpaste there was no damage to her mouth and it did not help her breath anyway. She continued to act incoherent and had no fight left in her. She was not the same dog I took in. Two days later she had a massive seizure, I took her to the emergeny clinic where the decision was made to take her out of pain as recommeded by the doctor there. She had never in her lifetime had a stroke or seizure and she was being eyedrop fed and water several time during the day to keep her hydrated. I know that someone in the vet office knows what happen that day but no one came forward to explain or mention the missing teeth nor the bloody stool though they did tell me she had a bowel movement on the blanket she came in with and they washed it before I got there. I do not know if she fell from a table or her teeth were the victim of being popped if in her condition she snapped at someone. She did not bite but if she was being hurt she would try to stop it by snapping. I would think vets would be use to that though. I doubt I will ever know what happened that day and it would not bring my pet back but I am writing this to others to be aware of what you take in to the vet office and what comes back, every time. I will say that the attending vet was not Dr Cannon but the assistant vet. Dr Cannon did an excellant job removing a foot pad tumor but he did miss testing her for kidney problems a year ago which resulted in catching it too late. Losing my pet broke my heart, knowing she was hurt by someone makes the heartache worse.
