It is also beneficial in improving the lives and longevity of our geriatric patients. We are able to do routine floats and uncomplicated extractions on the farm. All our veterinarians use power tools and a speculum as well as some hand tools if needed.

Dentistry plays a HUGE role in the health of your horse. Proper dental care allows a horse to process its feed and hay efficiently, which helps them perform at their best. Vaccination
There are five “core vaccines” which are recommended for all horses over the age of 6 months. These vaccines protect against diseases which are easily transmissible to any horse, regardless of their environment. Horses should be evaluated to consider their risk factors for other vaccinations. Below are the core vaccines we recommend.
Comprehensive Examination
Prior to the important investment of purchasing a new horse, a complete pre-purchase examination is recommended. The format can be tailored to your specific needs, but involves at the minimum a thorough physical examination which would include the following...

Rotation deworming is a thing of the past! We recommend a fecal test to determine if your horse is a high shedder or low shedder, then we can tailor their deworming schedule to their particular needs. On our Education page you will find a deworming protocol sheet that will list dewormers to use and when to use them according to your horses needs.

Chronic Condition Treatment

Arthritis Treatment
Modern medicine has made the use of regenerative medicine, like platelet rich plasma and IRAP, much more accessible for horse owners. We use V-Pet Veterinary Platelet Enhancement Therapy, a proven and natural cell therapy for treating Osteoarthritis, joints, tendon and soft tissue injuries. The on-site filtration system allows us to obtain a highly concentrated PRP from the fresh whole blood with minimal to no damage to the platelets. This allows for a better PRP within a matter of minutes, and will help your horse to heal more quickly.
Hip Dysplasia Treatment
Each lameness exam is performed with attention to the horse’s discipline, age and history. We take pride in conducting detail-oriented exams in order to best diagnose the lameness in your horse.

Wound and Fracture Care
Our Veterinarians can perform many minor surgeries in the field such as Castrations, Laceration repair, Caslicks procedures and Biopsy sampling as well as Enucleation surgery. If more extensive surgery is required, we will refer you to a referral equine surgical hospital.

Laboratory Services
Coggins testing, health certificates, hormone monitoring, CBC and Chem panels, and more! We have next day results for many of our routine labs and all of our coggins and health certificates are done electronically through globalvetlink so they can be accessed from anywhere.
X-Ray
We are well equipped and bring the convenience of a veterinary clinic right to your farm or stable. We perform reproductive services, digital radiography, ultrasonography, endoscopy, shockwave therapy, cryotherapy, mesotherapy, PRP, IRAP, dentistry, and many other services. Crum Equine is committed to the health and soundness of sport and race horses, while also serving pleasure and backyard horses. Crum Equine is comprised of highly trained veterinarians and staff dedicated to preventing, diagnosing, and treating injuries and illnesses in horses of all breeds and disciplines.
Microchipping
Microchipping is now required by many breed and horse show organizations. This quick, painless procedure provides permanent identification for your horse, can help prove ownership and help recover horses in the event of natural disaster or theft. We use the EquineChip.

Equine Vet
Dr. Crum realized his dream of becoming an equine veterinarian after working with both large and small animals growing up on a farm in western Pennsylvania. He attended Michigan State University in the Animal Science/Pre-veterinary program, then went on to attend and graduate from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. Dr. Crum worked at three distinctly different veterinary practices giving him valuable experience with Thoroughbred and Standardbred race horses, sport horses, Hunters and Jumpers, rodeo horses and backyard horses. Crum Equine Veterinary Service was founded in 1998 in Pickerington, Ohio. In 2002, the practice was moved to Lancaster, Ohio just a few miles southeast of Pickerington. Dr. Crum’s interests lie in sports medicine, lameness, reproduction and dentistry with an emphasis on lameness, diagnostics and performance sports medicine. Outside of work, Dr. Crum enjoys anything active outdoors and spending time with his wife and two young children
