FIRST OF ALL-- BEFORE YOU WRIT...

FIRST OF ALL-- BEFORE YOU WRITE A REVIEW-- THE HUMANE SOCIETY IS NOT THE VET. THE VET IS AAA ANIMAL HOSPITAL, SO CHOOSE THE CORRECT LISTING. THIS REVIEW IS OF THE OC HUMANE SOCIETY ON NEWLAND.

On rare occasions there are people who are not completely useless or rude working at the desk. Not everyone is an idiot. In fact the dog walkers and the cat ladies and kennel people are more helpful than the office staff.

They make it really hard to adopt any animal. Not in the caring way... in the CAN I WALK A FREAKING DOG way.... or the... Maybe if a dog is "unavailable" you could put that on the cage... or Maybe instead of having to pack myself into your tiny office with 6 other people ranging from cops dropping dogs off to owner's sobbing about relinquishing their pets, people waiting to walk a dog they could just put the SIMPLE facts on the CAGE. FEMALE, SPAYED 4 YEARS OLD AVAILABLE TO GO HOME TODAY.

I have been trying to "walk" a dog now for a WEEK and each time they lie and give me a different story. Oh, she's too sick, oh she's on hold til tomorrow (their policy is a ONE HOUR HOLD) Whatever I didn't want the dog ANYWAY I wanted to offer to pay to have her GROOMED!

A different lady (who I believe is no longer there) gave me the same crappy run around when I adopted my dog last year. Telling me he wasn't available, he's sick, he's on hold. Until I finally demanded the dog and thankfully the only nice person (with a clue) that works there was working the morning I finally got him. Why would you HOLD AN ANIMAL! Adopt it or you lose. No holds. This isn't Macy's! I didn't have a dog, so the kennel cough crap, was not relevant at all. PLUS I paid the $75 for the better antibiotic once he was released to me, I tossed the cheap amoxicillan. they were giving him. I understand that is what is donated. I get that. But, to treat me like I can't handle it seems a bit like a control issue to me.

I was there at 4:15 on a Sunday. They close at 5, and their reasoning for lack of service is that they were getting ready to close. You know what? You are trying to adopt out STRAY ANIMALS. You close at 5 and then take care of your closing crap. Otherwise "CLOSE" at 4:30! You are not doing US a favor by letting us look at YOUR animals. WE are trying to do the right thing by adopting one and giving it a home.

On one visit I tell the girl the dog I want to walk. She makes me fill out this 4 page ridiculous history form which she didn't even look at and I give my license and then she says, oh that do isn't available. Not to mention I already went thru the ENTIRE adoption process less than a year ago. What a complete waste of time. So I ask to have my forms back but she says she will file them. WELL I hope you don't file them in the same place you can't retrieve my adoption paperwork because I will not fill out another 4 page life history to maybe walk a dog. And then the looks that I AM JUST A JERK? Seriously? Treat people like customers, and really, take this advice.... you really should try to interact with possible adopters and talk to them about the dogs or cats.

I watched them release a pit lab mix to a dad to walk without even explaining that the dog is just really excited to be out of the kennel and to give him 20 minutes to calm down before you judge the temperament.

Isn't your JOB whether it is volunteer or NOT to actually GET THESE ANIMALS A HOME?

And by the way, the websites they supposedly list on are not updated daily like they say. Do it or don't. There seems to be plenty of office people. How about we try to do some delegation.

It's really too bad and their only saving grace for me is that ONE girl appears to be pleasant and have a clue, and the cat ladies are always nice. It's not the animals fault for the people's actions as usual. But they are supposed to be in a place doing EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO GET THEM A HOME.

I volunteered at this place fo...

I volunteered at this place for a long time. And the things I found out, almost no one knows except the volunteers. OC humane society often refuses veterinary care of these animals. I remember a cat with an infected eye went days without care, until finally being picked up by the scruff and tossed into a box to go to the vet. There is a nasty rumor that the vet next door takes donations for himself. The cages go uncleaned, and pets get horrible quality food like meow mix and kibbles and bits. The manager just doesn't care, she sits around and eats all day. And they treat volunteers like worthless pieces of dirt! My friend got three kittens on separate occasions from here and they all died within a month. Oh, and the quarantine room is pitch black and smells enough to make you puke. Another rumor is that they euthanize healthy pets, although they call themselves no kill. "Humane" society? I say better off in a puppy mill!

Bad service over and over

I have been taking my dog to AAA pet hospital for 3 years, and have had the final straw. The Front desk staff is very unprofessional, I always hold for 15-20 minutes on each call, and have never had a call back on test results. I have made the Dr. aware of the service given by there front staff, but still no improvement, he even nodded at my familiar complaint explaining they have been trying to fix this for awhile. As a buisness owner I would never allow my reception to treat clients this way.

No cats from Huntington Beach

I took my cat to relinquish her at the Newland st., Huntington Beach address, but was told they only take in cats from Westminister, and that I would have to take her to the City Drive address, which is in Santa Ana. I live in Huntington Beach, And they use the address of Huntington Beach why do I have to drive all the way to Santa Ana when this is closer. Westminister is closer to Santa Ana, which doesn't make sense to me. i live and pay taxes to H.untington Beach, and I resent the fact that Westminister utilizes the facilities here in Huntington Beach

They didn't even care

They were all very rude and did not care about the animals at all even though I arrived there with a very sick stray cat they did not offer any help or even accknowledge the fact that there was an animal in need. I would definatly not recommend taking any animal there because if they treat the other animals the way they treated the poor cat, I doubt any of them would have a chance to get better and find a good home.
