Dental Care
I highly recommend Dr. Tom and the East Hilliard Office. Although they are not our regular veterinarian, and we drove 1.5 hours to get there, I am extremely grateful that he was the doctor to work on our sweet Billy. There were some minor complications with the tooth extraction (some additional teeth had to be removed also) & Dr. Tom handled it and made the best decision to make sure that Billy had the least amount of pain and recovery but the best jaw strength moving forward. Thank you to Dr. Tom and his wonderful staff for making sure Billy and his humans were completely comfortable with the entire process and procedure!

Veterinary Ophthalmology
Glaucoma is a serious and painful disease caused by increased pressure in the eye. Early detection is critical. Using a specialized instrument called a Tonopen we can quickly and painlessly screen our patients for glaucoma.

Preventative medicine is ultimately safer, more effective, and less expensive than waiting until an animal is obviously ill. Pain Management
Using laser treatment is a nice alternative for the healing process or pain management without the use of drugs. It is also a non-surgical and pain free method for finding relaxation and comfort for your pet.
Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
Current and previous lifestyle, diet, and medications are also important portions of our history taking process. After a thorough physical exam, additional diagnostics like cytology, culture, blood allergy testing, or hypoallergenic food trials may be recommended. Treatment options are tailored to each patient based on the results of the exam and diagnostics. Many patients find relief from their allergy symptoms after receiving appropriate medications, hypoallergenic foods, or allergy immunotherapy.

These social creatures are a lot of fun! We recommend bringing your ferret in yearly for an exam and rabies vaccination. General husbandry, nutrition and behavior will all be discussed to keep your ferret as healthy as possible. Gastrointestinal diseases, parasites, hormonal disorders a heart disease can affect them so it is important to detect these conditions early and treat them appropriately. Given their curious nature, we also see ferrets for foreign body removal surgery!

Parvovirus Infection Treatment
Vaccine protocols and recommendations are continuously changing as new research emerges. Our doctors will customize the safest and most effective vaccine and protocol specifically for your pet based on species, age, current lifestyle, and risk factors. Franklin County require that all dogs and cats be vaccinated against rabies. In addition to rabies, generally dogs are vaccinated regularly against distemper virus, parvovirus, adenovirus, parinfluenza, leptosporosis, and bordatella. Along with the feline rabies vaccine, cats are also routinely vaccinated with a FVRCP vaccine. This protects them against feline vial rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, panleukopenia, and chlamydia. Depending on your cat’s risk, we may vaccinate them again feline leukemia virus as well.
Feline Retro Virus Treatment
East Hilliard Veterinary Services offers a variety of laboratory services for your pet. Our in-house laboratory is fully equipped to perform internal and external parasite identification, ear cytology, tissue cytology, complete blood counts, biochemical profiles, electrolyte analysis, and urine evaluations. Blood work and urine testing is essential for drug use monitoring, pre-anesthetic workups, and screenings for illness such as diabetes, mellitus, kidney disease, bladder infections, and/or stones. For our feline patients we also test for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus. In addition to our in house lab services, we utilize local and national veterinary laboratory services for evaluation of blood, urine, tissue samples, and cell samples.
Ear Infection Treatment
Therapeutic laser treatment is an option for many health issues. East Hilliard Veterinary Services uses laser therapy on patients with conditions such as arthritis, ear hematomas and sprains. Therapy can also be administered to patients to assist in healing from bite wound, ear infections, surgical incisions and post dental extractions.

Periodontal Disease Treatment
Feline tooth resorption is the second most common dental condition in cats after periodontal disease. Cats that are affected with tooth resorption (TR) may have a sensitive mouth, excessive salivating or even behavioral changes. Seventy percent of cats over five years of age may have at least one of these lesions. The doctors diagnose TR by an oral exam coupled with dental xrays under anesthesia. TR will progress and eventually cause exposure of the pulp nerve and subsequent oral pain. Treatment for TR is surgical extraction of the affected teeth and suturing of the site. Performing this procedure instantly removes the pulp nerve pain. Even though TR is such a common condition to find in our feline friends, there is no known cause for it.

Dental Surgery
Within our facility, we are able to help our clients with routine care, laboratory diagnostics and diagnostic imaging, soft tissue surgeries, allergies, sick visits, laser therapy, and pharmaceutical needs. We are also privileged to offer advanced oral surgery and oral imaging from Dr. Tom Klein, Dr. Dave Mathes and Dr. Lane Bookenberger.
Veterinary Surgery
Dr. Chris has been at part of the East Hilliard Veterinary Services family since 1997 after graduation from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Science. Dr. Chris has a soft spot in her heart for all of her patients and sees our largest patients, our goofy gentle giants, to our smallest patients, the tiniest mouse. She has a passion for soft tissue surgery and wellness care. Her and her husband, Paul, live in Hilliard with their two children, Nicholas and Emily. In addition to her two human children, Dr. Chris has three cats, Ruby, the matriarch of the family and Loki and Peter, the newest balls of energy. She also has a hamster, Henry. When not at work she actively volunteers at her children’s schools, scout troops, and church functions. She enjoys spending time with friends and family.

Laboratory Services
But, secondly, I have to mention our most recent experience with Chris. Bax is long gone, and our current dog is a Huskie mix named Jessie (she’s eleven years old). A little over a week ago Jessie stopped eating. One day of not eating wasn’t surprising; she does that from time to time. But after two days we were quite worried, and on the third day I called and asked to leave a message for Chris. I explained our concern and asked for her help. I later learned she was quite busy that day, but at the end of her work day she called us and, once she understood things, said we should bring Jessie in immediately and she’d wait for us. Long story short, she did blood work that night and when that didn’t tell her anything, she took a long-shot and had a visiting specialist do an ultrasound the next evening. It turned out that Jessie has Addison’s disease (atypical Addison’s), for which we are now treating her. But the point I want to make here is that in the course of two very traumatic days, Chris was like a rock for us, calling us regularly with progress reports and assuring us that Jessie would be okay. It’s impossible to exaggerate what Chris’s warmth and kindness meant to us.

We believe routine examinations are the foundation of a complete health care program. We provide comprehensive examinations to thoroughly evaluate the health of every pet. During the visit we will review your pet’s medical history and address any ongoing concerns, and then investigate changes that may be occurring. We will consult on routine care, nutrition, weight management, dental health, grooming, training, and behavioral needs, along with any other area of concern you, as the pet owner, may have. Since different age groups have different needs, the interval between examinations will vary based on age. For senior pets we recommend exams every six months. When seeing the patient more frequently we are better able to detect subtle changes and find problem in much earlier, treatable or maintainable stages.
