I purchased a king size adjustable bed from Naturally Organic Hayward. Mr. Atkins, one of the owners of Naturally Organic Hayward, promised us a 30-day, no risk, money back guarantee. Mr. Atkins told us that we could return the bed at any time within 30 days for a full refund, if we were not satisfied with the bed for any reason. We notified Mr. Atkins that the bed did not work for us within the 30-day trial period and asked him to pick it up and refund our money. However, Mr. Atkins reduced our refund by $600.00. He told us the $600.00 was the fee for delivering the bed (there was no delivery fee) and picking it up. There was never a mention of the $600.00 charge until after the bed had been picked up. Indeed, since other companies have longer trial periods and do not charge for returns, we would never have bought the bed from Mr. Atkins if we had known about the alleged $600.00 charge. Moreover, had we known about the alleged $600.00 charge before Mr. Atkins picked up the bed, we would have dropped the bed off ourselves to save the $600.00. The $600.00 charge is even more absurd, because the adjustable bases for the bed were broken and inoperable at the time of delivery to us and were not repaired prior to our return of the bed. This was a complete rip-off.



When we learned that Mr. Atkins ripped us off for $600.00, we checked into the truth of what he told us when we bought the bed. Mr. Atkins had supplied beds to the Stanford Sleep Clinic. We had asked Stanford where they had purchased the beds, and they referred us to Mr. Atkins. We were naïve and took everything Mr. Atkins told us at face value because Stanford had recommended him. Mr. Atkins told us the prices that other merchants charge for the bed we bought and proceeded to allegedly give us a large discount. Well, his large discount was a complete rip-off. For example, the so-called great deal he gave us on the adjustable bases for the bed, which were very old floor models that were broken and inoperable (unbeknownst to us at the time of the purchase), was $3,000.00. When we looked at prices elsewhere for the bases, after Mr. Atkins ripped us off for the $600.00, we found that the going price for the bases from the same manufacturer was $2,000. Moreover, the $2,000 was for brand new, never used, current model, fully operating bases, as opposed to Mr. Atkins’ very old, broken, discontinued model, floor model bases.
