Mercy Hall is by far the best place to go in Nassau County if you're a woman with a substance abuse problem and you have nowhere safe to live or are trying to rebuild your life from the ground up. However, it's not for everyone and it definitely has it's flaws.
Here are some of the positives:
-there are 22 single bedrooms
-the place is clean
-there is always food in the kitchen
-violence and drug use are not at all tolerated if staff is aware of it
-you get money from DSS every 2 weeks, which at the time I lived there was $77
-AA/NA meeting are mandatory - 7 a week
-you have 30 days to get a sponsor
-the location is very convenient, which makes getting to meetings very easy
-you will begin to form a support group in AA and in the house
-staff is on 24/7
-if you're in with a good group of girls, you will feel like you have gained a new family
The cons:
-the director is cold and rather heartless
-a lot of the staff is unprofessional and miserable
-the vibe of the house largely depends on the current population there
-relapses can have a domino effect thru the house
-rules can be unfair and illogical
-different rules for different people
-staff can treat you however they want to
-some of the other girls might be kind of insane
-you might have to fight to get what you want (as far as school, future housing, ect)
-if you're homeless, fight to get on the community housing list asap
Overall, if you or a loved one is in need of a place to go after rehab, I do recommend going to Mercy Hall. Is it perfect? No. Did I hate it sometimes? Yes. But thanks to Mercy Hall I was able to build a foundation in recovery for which I will be eternally grateful.

I lived in Mercy Hall for 8 months and it definitely helped as far as my staying sober and beginning to put my life back together; however, Linda, the director is extremely rude, lacks any compassion, and has no understanding whatsoever about recovery. She seemed to care very little about keeping things consistent and organized, especially when it came to running her staff. Other than the multitude of issues people seemed to have with the staff, the house is pretty clean and keeps your day full of routine and structure which is nice. All in all, if you are looking for long term treatment in Nassau County, it is currently one of the better places to go, but be prepared to walk on egg shells at times during your stay there.
