Erectile Dysfunction
Urinary Incontinence
After prostate tissue has been removed, the body needs time to heal. The remaining prostate tissue may actually swell and become inflamed before the desired shrinking effect occurs. Patients may suffer an uncomfortable recovery period that includes short-term problems such as bleeding, infection, erectile dysfunction, and urinary incontinence. Patients have to have a catheter that is attached to a urine bag inserted into their bladder for several days after the procedure.

Pelvic Pain
Chronic pelvic pain (CPPS): While the cause of CPPS is unknown, studies have shown significant improvement in pain and urinary symptoms following LiSWT therapy. In studies, 60-70% of men had significant improvement in symptoms which was durable for at least a year.

Kidney Stones
Kidney stones occasionally require surgical intervention. We can discuss the appropriate options for each patient. Common minimally-invasive procedures are ESWL, which uses sound waves delivered completely outside of the body to break up stones, URETEROSCOPY which allows a small scope to target the stones and destroy them with lasers without making an incision, and PCNL which destroys stones with ultrasonic energy delivered via a small puncture into the kidney.
Prostate Cancer
Between May, 2009 and May, 2012 I had no known prostate issues. PSA and DRE tests yielded normal results. However, in May, the 2012 PSA result went to 4.0. Dr. Ball explained what that result meant and reviewed my options with me. I decided to wait and have another PSA test before having a biopsy. It was during this time that I began to experience frequent urination, especially at night. I had another PSA test in November, 2012. My PSA had increased to 4.6. Minimally Invasive Surgery
Dr. Ball completed his surgical internship (2000) and his residency in urology and urologic surgery (2004) at Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Miami School of Medicine. He was co-Chief Resident during 2003-2004. The following year was spent in Norfolk, Virginia where Dr. Ball completed a one-year elective fellowship with Devine-Tidewater Urology and the Eastern Virginia School of Medicine, where he sub-specialized in minimally-invasive surgery, stone disease, and laparoscopic and robotic urologic surgery.
