Child Abuse
Road rage cases, driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol with an accident that causes death, careless driving resulting in death, first-degree murder, second-degree murder, child abuse resulting in death cases. All of these are aggravated charges and should be taken seriously when considering your representation.

Margaret Teigen Steele is a Colorado native. She grew up in Aurora and graduated from Gateway High School. She was just four days old when she attended her father’s graduation from the University of Colorado at Boulder – School of Law. She went on to attend CU-Boulder herself where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. She immediately attended Creighton University School of Law and received her Law Degree. Margaret returned to Colorado where she has practiced criminal defense law for more than 20 years. She is a member of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar as well as the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations. She has been recognized as one of the National Trial Lawyers Top 100.
DUI/DWI
Sex Crimes
Sex cases include sexual assault on a child, sexual assault on an adult either through drugging the victim or with force, internet luring or communicating with an underage person on the internet and soliciting sex, possession and/or distribution of child pornography, sexual exploitation of a child, prostitution, or solicitation.

Theft, Burglary cases, and municipal shoplifting cases. Restitution issues are always at issue in these cases and separate hearings on restitution will be held. The court must rule within 91 days from the date of conviction.

Assault and menacing cases can be both misdemeanor charges or felony charges. Assault cases can involve serious bodily injury or a deadly weapon. Some assault cases are designated as “Crimes of Violence.” Don’t fight these charges on your own. A “Crime of Violence” requires mandatory prison time and you must serve a majority of the time.
Drug Crimes
Gun charges can be misdemeanor-level offenses or very serious felony charges. Weapons and gun charges often accompany serious felony charges and can aggravate both assaults and drug cases. You need an attorney if you have been charged with an offense involving weapons or guns.

Probation violations can lead to re-sentencing on the underlying criminal case. All sentencing options are available including jail and/or prison. It is important to have an attorney request all of your probation file information and argue on your behalf at the hearing.

Restraining orders can be civil or criminal. A civil restraining order is called a Protection Order and they are procured in County Court. A civil protection order can be temporary or permanent. Every criminal case requires a Mandatory Protection Order that is designed to protect victims and witnesses in criminal cases. Violating these is a separate crime.
